I have been on a leaf mission lately, as the textures, colors, and shapes have continually captured my attention and sparked a sense of natural wonder. Macro photography has taught me to look closer, and the finished image here was a 135 image stacked photo.

I managed to spot this interesting leaf while blowing the yard outside, and under a macro lens, the textures look completely otherworldly. It turns nature's random design into a literal fine art gallery piece.

Title: "Eyes of the Swamp" — Wildlife photography is often about more than documenting an animal; to me, it's about the brief moments of connection that happen when they look directly back at you.

In the , hidden beneath the water, mud, and vegetation, this alligator was nearly invisible. The only thing that gave away its presence was a single golden eye watching everything around it. As I stood about 8 inches above the water's edge, that eye never left me, even as it slowly disappeared under the walkway beneath my feet.

There is something both intense and humbling about being observed by a predator so close, and so perfectly adapted to its environment. Quiet, patient, and completely aware, it reminded me that in the wild, you're rarely the only one doing the watching.

Title: "The Watchful Gaze" - My favorite bird, and the one I was most excited to capture. Some moments in wildlife photography feel less like taking a photo and more like being quietly acknowledged. This Roseate Spoonbill had been resting peacefully, bill hidden beneath its soft pink feathers, until one eye slowly opened and peered directly at me, fully aware, calm, quiet, and incredibly intimate; almost personal.

Title: "Waiting in the Shadows" — They say your first is always the most special, and in this case, it truly was. I had never been able to see alligators up close and personal, let alone photograph them. At near , I had my first encounter with an alligator while hiding beneath a tree. There was no way for me to tell whether it was male or female, but either way, a very close eye was kept on me the entire time. Beautiful animals, incredibly aware of their surroundings, and impossible to ignore once they lock onto you.

A couple images from a recent school project where I pushed myself to see the same subject in different ways.

The smoke, the copper tones, and the low-key lighting made this one of my favorite studio experiments so far. It really showed me how much mood and emotion lighting alone can create.

Having access to a studio is opening a whole new door in my photography, and I’m excited to start diving deeper into darker, more cinematic and moody work.
