I was showing a friend my processing for photos the other day and they said "I can't really tell that you did anything..." and to that I said "Good! That's the point! If I do my job right in camera, while taking the photo, I won't have to do much in post."
Editing photos shouldn't be changing everything about the image and making it look like a completely different image. It should be about bringing out the colors that are already there, making the details crisper and clearer, using de-noise to remove all the little imperfections the more you add filters, smoothing out lines, removing objects that aren't supposed to be there (we see you photo bomb in the back)...
So no, the image shouldn't look completely different than the original taken. The edited image should enhance the already beautifully taken image.
