I had a chance to visit and photograph the interior of the roller mill and grain elevator at the Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village. The engineering and ingenuity of people who designed this machinery is impressive.

Wonderful fieldwork session with Dominish Marie Miller at The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad last Sunday.

"I think a lot of people will look at me reenacting and think that it's not historically accurate, but it is. There were 400 to 1,000 female soldiers in the Civil War — it's just a part of history that not a lot of people talk about. I'm really passionate about educating people and letting them know that women played a bigger role in the Civil War than just sitting at home."

Large format photography rejects the casual snapshot aesthetic, transforming the documentary act into a collaborative one.

Dallas Junior in Palatka, FL. Photographed on Ilford HP5 using 4 x 5 large format camera with 90mm lens.

"Every time you’re told an opportunity — you can’t; you show the world you can."

Why do I photograph with a large format camera? Because nothing captures the human presence and experience quite like analog film.

For documentary and editorial projects, I have been out all day on 2 shrimp boats, an oyster skiff, 2 crab boats, a catfish skiff, and a bass boat. This image is from my first experience on a shrimp boat out of Mayport, Florida.

Is there anything more quintessential to small-town America than the local hardware store? This one's in Alabama and they serve a homemade biscuit breakfast for locals.

Last week, I had the unique opportunity to photograph in the historic cupola of one of the most iconic structures of the Civil War — the Lutheran Theological Seminary, now the Seminary Ridge Museum and Educational Center in Gettysburg. I photographed Codie Eash, Director of Education and Interpretation, for a special project.

I found this image in my files this morning. Photographing abandoned architecture is not one of my favorite subjects but I know there are photographers who specialize in this work. Original contact print from a 4 x 5 film negative with Photoshop affects
