A little real talk from your local farmโฆ
We put an incredible amount of time, planning, and work into everything we grow. Months before harvest, weโre making decisions about what to plant and how much, trying to strike the balance between having enough for our customers while also not growing so much that food goes to waste.
This week reminded us how difficult that can be.
With the recent latest lettuce shortages and recalls, many people who normally shop elsewhere came looking for local lettuce. We were truly grateful to see so many new faces, but we also felt terrible that we couldnโt have enough for everyone.
The reality is we canโt predict recalls, supply chain disruptions, or shortages at large farms and retailers. We simply grow based on what we expect our regular customers will need.
If thereโs one takeaway, itโs this: support your local farms before thereโs a problem - not just when the food system has one. The more consistent local support is, the more confidently we can plant, invest, and grow enough food for everyone. And if recent years have shown us anything, these disruptions are becoming more common.
Weโll gladly grow for our community. We just need to know our community is growing with us. ๐
