A wedding portrait should capture more than how the two of you looked. It should preserve where your story unfolded.

For Brittney and Jimmy, that meant stepping back and letting the mansion at Drumore Estate become part of the photograph. The architecture, the gardens, and the symmetry surrounding them give this portrait a sense of place that a close-up simply cannot.

Years from now, they won’t just remember how they looked. They’ll remember exactly where it all happened.

A wedding story is rarely just one thing happening at a time.

During Nicole and Neil’s ketubah signing at Vault 634, every corner of the room held another piece of the story. A meaningful signature. A quiet conversation. A reassuring hand held between generations. A laugh shared with family. A kiss unfolding in the background.

These intimate moments happen quickly, but they carry so much weight.

That is why I love looking beyond the obvious moment and building photographs with layers. The couple may be the heart of the story, but the people surrounding them, their reactions and the relationships they share are what give that story depth.

Because years from now, Nicole and Neil deserve to remember more than what happened.

They deserve to feel what it was like to be in that room.

I love incorporating the defining features of a venue into a couple’s portraits.

The architecture. The landscape. The details that make the space instantly recognizable.

And when the venue straight up puts its name on the side of the building? Well, that makes my job pretty easy. 😂

Tory and Logan beneath the iconic Bentley Farms sign. A portrait that doesn’t just show how they looked on their wedding day. It preserves where their story unfolded, too.

You spend a year planning a room. Picking the draping. Deciding where the candles go...and then the photographer shows up, blasts the whole thing with light, and hands you back a gallery where your venue looks like every other venue.

That's the part nobody warns you about.

Christine and Stephen chose the Cork Factory Hotel because of what it feels like in here. Warm drapes running the length of the beams, string lights buried in every fold, brick holding all that warmth in on every side. Candles down both sides of the aisle until the floor turns into a mirror.

That's the whole reason to book this room...so that's what the photos look like.

The vibe you paid for should be the vibe you get back. 🙌

Greta and Joe’s first look in Excelsior’s garden courtyard had all the feels.

The smiles. The tears. The laughter that broke through somewhere in between.

They shared private vows, held onto each other, and let every emotion unfold exactly as it came. Nothing forced. Nothing held back. Just two people completely present in one of the most meaningful moments of their wedding day.

Michael and his crew looking like they ordered the storm clouds themselves.

The blue suits. The open field. That dramatic sky rolling over Bluestone Estate. Everything came together for a portrait that feels bigger than a standard lineup of the guys standing shoulder to shoulder.

Photos like this take time. Time to walk to the right location, arrange everyone, dial in the lighting, and create something that includes not only the people, but the atmosphere and the venue surrounding them.

Does that mean every couple needs to build extra portrait time into their wedding day? Absolutely not.

There is no right or wrong answer. If environmental portraits like this matter to you, we need to make room for them in the timeline. If you would rather spend that time enjoying cocktail hour, visiting with guests, or simply keeping the day moving, that is completely valid too.

Your timeline should reflect what you actually value. My job is to help you understand what is possible with the time we have and make sure the photos we create feel like you.

For Michael, that time gave us this. His closest friends, the landscape of Bluestone Estate, and a stormy sky that could not have been planned any better.

The vine-covered arches in the Italian Gardens at The Inn at Leola Village create one of the most unique natural frames on the property.

By pulling back and placing Sam and Hassan within the scene, the photograph becomes about more than just the couple. It showcases the layers of greenery, the winding brick path and the architecture of the garden surrounding them.

Close-up portraits show you what the couple looked like. Environmental portraits preserve where they chose to celebrate and give the full wedding gallery a much stronger sense of place.

An old photo, but one I’ll never not share on National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. 🍪

This was taken years ago, but honestly, not much has changed. I’m still just as addicted, still incapable of turning down a warm chocolate chip cookie, and still convinced that “just one” is one of the biggest lies I tell myself.

Some photos age. Some addictions do not.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day to everyone who knows the correct number of cookies is always one more.

Some of the best photographs happen in the moments between the moments.

Taylor and Mike were simply walking from one part of the Cork Factory Hotel to the next. No posing. No big production. Just holding hands, sharing a look, and taking in the fact that they were about to get married.

Those little transitions may seem insignificant in real time, but they often carry so much feeling. That is why I am always watching, even when it seems like we are just moving to the next location.

Because sometimes the photograph you never planned becomes one of the photographs you love most.

Happy 6th wedding anniversary to us!

I love you so much, and I love the life we’ve built together. I’m incredibly grateful that I get to spend my career capturing the love stories of so many amazing couples, but my favorite love story will always be ours.

Here’s to everything we’ve built, everything still ahead of us, and getting to do all of it together.
