There are plenty of benefits to gold mining near Hot Creek and Mammoth lakes:

1. Mental Health: you can’t deny the work views will be incredible. Once you add a massive pit in front of the mountain, it’s gonna look even better.

2. Water independence: Contaminating the supply so badly that LA finally stops stealing it or there won’t be any left for them anyway.

3. Nutrient rich fishing: Catching trout packed with heavy metals to add minerals to your diet.

4. Worklife balance: Epic fishing of heavy metal packed nutrient trout on your 30 minute lunch break.

5. Amazon same day deliveries: whether it’s fishing rods or snowboards, you’ll no longer have to wait a week for deliveries.

6. Apple iPhone production: Mining more gold means we can make chips faster and get new next gen iPhones twice a year.

7. Infrastructure development: more people has to mean AT&T and Verizon bring more towers to mountain towns for cell reception.

8. Food options: we’ll get back Starbucks, McDonald’s, and everyone else.

9. Wildlife relocation: Giving deer fences and dirt mounds to keep them active.

10. The next frontier: Supplying materials to mega corporations so billionaires hit targets to colonize Mars and mine there next.

Just out here admiring the sheer benefits data centers bring to the world:

• Water conservation: Consuming billions of gallons of local water just to keep the algorithms chill.

• Wildlife integration: Replacing natural habitats with concrete boxes and razor wire so the deer can learn to adapt.

• Traffic optimization: Turning a 10-minute commute into permanent gridlock. Honestly a small price to pay so my feed loads 0.002 seconds faster while I sit there idling.

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood

The neighborhood looks a little different when your neighbors are mostly granite mountains and pine trees. This corner of the world is too good not to share and it is a lot easier to get along when there are no artificial lines drawn in the dirt. I have never seen a mountain range ask for a passport or check a status before letting someone in to enjoy the view. The concept of a neighbor doesn’t stop at a fence or a border because nature doesn’t really believe in those things anyway. We are all just visitors in a neighborhood that was meant to be open to everyone regardless of where they started their journey. It is a beautiful day to realize that the only walls out here are the ones made of stone and even those have plenty of room for all of us.

Some of my favorite views in Yosemite Valley.
Walking through El Capitan meadow really hits you with the scale of this place. When you see a person standing at the base of those massive granite walls, you realize how big it is and how small we are. The valley is just a series of these scenes. You have mornings watching bears pick their way through the deep grass, and afternoons hanging out by the river where the water cuts through everything.
The views change completely with the light. You get the sun hitting the high walls in the morning, Half Dome glowing red at sunset, and those heavy thunderstorms that turn the sky orange.
In the middle of all this beauty is a tough reality for wildlife. You often see bears running across the open meadows just to find cover. They stay on the move to avoid the rangers who are constantly tracking and hazing them. It is an incredible place, but it is a stressful environment for the animals that are just trying to live there.

A few nights a year if conditions are just right the light of a full moon creates a rainbow on Yosemite falls.
I really wanted to go this year but it didn’t work out. If this ends up being my biggest problem in 2020 then I guess I don’t really have any problems.
For everyone who is having a tough year try to stay strong.

What do you think is the best mountain town? I’m gonna say Mammoth Lakes. Year round activities, very accessible and loads of land to explore. I love the intersection of desert, forest and all of the alpine lakes. Lodging isn’t terribly priced, lots of cheap / free camping, and a decently sized town. Name a better spot, I’m due for a vacation 😀

After I shot the moonrise I loved the light and wanted a few more shots. I saw a group getting ready to launch their kayaks and offered $10 to whoever would paddle straight out for me. This girl said no problem and flew right out there. Problem is she never came back. Hit me up for the cash 💰For everyone else I have one question.
