Oxbow Bend at Grand Teton National Park.

4 compositions of the same scene from dawn through Sunrise and Golden Hour.

Took a 4am wake up call to drive about 90 minutes and we just about made it in time for sunrise. This is a beautiful location but it can be a mad house with photographers and the multitudes looking to take selfies.

Spot the Pelican who decided to photobomb my shots 😀

Scenes from Yellowstone National Park. Study in minimalism, and black and white photography.

Hayden Valley and most of the area around Yellowstone Lake was shrouded in fog when we visited in late August. Visibility was down which made wildlife photography and achieving sharp focus very challenging. However it made for some beautiful, soft landscapes.
1. Yellowstone river. Just north of Hayden Valley, I stopped for a Bison and fell in love with this composition by the river bank.
2. Elk by Yellowstone Lake. These two came out of nowhere in the fog and they were gone in seconds.

4. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone - captured at the brink of the upper falls.

Minimalist landscape in color and monochrome. A change up from the grand vistas of Yosemite National Park. These trees caught my eye on the hike up to Cathedral Lakes. Tough hike but worth the trip.

Portraits of the American Buffalo- Bison bulls in Yellowstone National Park.
These bulls may look gentle; don’t be fooled. They’re big, strong, fast and short tempered.

I unintentionally got real close to an aggressive bull on this trip. He was coming our way and I didn’t see him. A couple up on a hill frantically waved us down just in time for us to avoid what surely looked like an impending charge. No idea what made us look up the hill but grateful for their help.

Snapshot of the wildlife in Yellowstone National Park. We were lucky to see the Junction Butte Pack on a kill in Lamar Valley.

I planned this trip for the bison rut but may have missed most of it by a week. The bulls though were still very aggressive.

Hayden Valley is nice especially early morning with the low mist and fog but I prefer Lamar Valley for wildlife.

Shout out to the National Park Service for the amazing job they do with maintaining the park facilities.

Will be back in winter.

Ospreys in Grand Teton National Park.
Chanced upon this adult and juvenile Osprey on Moose Wilson Road in the Tetons. We drove through expecting to see moose and bears at sundown. This was a nice unexpected surprise.

If you’re planning a trip they’re nesting near the park entrance right off the road.

Dawn breaks over the High Sierra in Yosemite National Park.

I drove through the night to make it to Olmsted Point in time for sunrise. You never know what will unfold. You just have to show up and hope the mountain delivers. I hoped for the right light over Half Dome. While that didn’t happen, this scene was unfolding 90 degrees to the left. For about 15 minutes the High Sierra turned amber and gold.

Yosemite never disappoints!!

Veil of the Giants
