Well fam, we finally did it. We made it into Yosemite in February while Horsetail Falls had water moving over it!

If you aren’t familiar with the Firefall in Yosemite National Park, let me tell you about it!

This sporadic waterfall exists on the eastern face of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. Every year it has the potential to play a part in a very cool natural phenomenon! From mid-late February the winter sun sets in just the right location to illuminate the water falling on this canyon wall. Of course you’ll need a few other things to line up perfectly.

- You’ll need a solid snowpack to melt and feed the waterfall.

- You’ll need a clear day and no cloud obstructions.

- Depending on when you visit you might need a reservation to even get in the park in February

If you’re fortunate enough to line all of these needs up you’ll be treated to a natural showing of orange and pink hues cascading hundreds of feet to the valley floor!

This is our second year being able to spend the holiday season on the California coast.

California is probably one of my favorite states if only for its diversity in land and wildlife. Especially it’s coastal wildlife. Which is exactly why I’m sharing these cute little Sea Otter.

Next stop…Monarch Butterfly Migration!

Yet again living on the road has offered us another unexpected turn.

We rolled into Elko, NV on August 21st and after what was supposed to be a 12 day stay with a little RV maintenance turned into 7 weeks and counting while we wait on our RV to be fixed. While unplanned and disruptive it’s not a bad thing in my opinion. I’m from Elko, and lots of good friends and memories reside here.

The only downfall has been the wrench it threw into our Colorado plans. So far autumn colors have escaped me. Luckily we’re set for Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend!

Until then, here’s a little star fun at an abandoned ski hill in rural Nevada.

Are you tired of seeing pictures yet??

Good, neither am I! I think when you visit a place that has so many iconic and well known vista’s it’s always fun to get out there and capture a vantage point you don’t often see.

Please feel free to tag me in your NP photos so I can see your perspective when visiting your favorite places!

It’s Moose Monday!!!

After spending the last three weeks outside of Glacier National Park our wildlife tally came to 1 Grizzly Bear, 6 Black Bears, 2 Mountain Goats, over two dozen Big Horn Sheep, and finally 3 Moose.

Pictured is my first sighting of a bull moose and a male calf that’s barely begun to grow his antlers.

Sightings like this are even more gratifying because they are a lot less likely to be seen from the roadside and require a bit of planning and a bit of luck! Just remember if you’re lucky enough to meet these guys keep your distance!

After writing and re-writing several different captions I realize all I want to do is show you this neat photo I took before embarking on Going to the Sun Road.

We are loving our first trip to Glacier and we aren’t even half way through it. What are your favorite spots in Glacier NP?

If you ever find yourself on the Western side of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State you’ll have to be sure to check out Merriman Falls. This incredibly approachable waterfall sits just Northeast of Lake Quinault.

I call it approachable because you can find it just off the side of the road. It’s a great spectacle for those with disabilities or limited mobility!

After several years of hearing about Leavenworth, WA I was finally able to make the trip over the 4th of July weekend!

Leavenworth is a Bavarian themed town tucked away in the Southern Cascade Mountains. I knew that I would enjoy my time there as soon as we pulled in, for a couple of reasons.

The first being that the landscape all around us was amazing and the second being that Main Street smelled of sausage and mustard!

In preparation for our drive to tomorrow I have a little throwback to 2017.

Back in May of 2017 myself and a few others camped out at Second Beach, just outside of La Push, WA. I was set up for some night photos and was clicking away shortly after dusk.

At the time I noticed a slight purple hue that I later brought out in editing. I wasn’t even sure why it was there until we got into service the next day. To my surprise we had learned that the northern lights were visible from Seattle that same night. So it looks like we caught a faint tail end of northern lights!

Cannot wait to spend the next few weeks adventuring through out this park!

I remember seeing a picture of this arch years ago and being instantly in love with this view. I knew that I would want to visit it and be able to get my own capture of this awe-inspiring landscape.

Well on Wednesday afternoon we set out from the trailhead and power hiked two miles and a modest chunk of elevation just to be sure we got decent lighting with the sun setting to the northwest.

I’ve said it before, there is just something gratifying about knowing what shot you want and then going out there and getting it. Sometimes the most gratifying part of a picture is the ex*****on it took to get there.

I don’t know what it is exactly about this photo that makes it look so inviting.. but what I do know is that’s a path I could take even once a month and still be thrilled to be there.

Happy Friday everyone! Any good plans to go outside this weekend??

Sharing a quick flashback to our trip to in December of last year. I don’t think I had as cool a view as the people in this photo but I’m sure glad they were there for this view!
