One of my favorite things about out-of-hospital births? The midwife performing the newborn assessment right at the foot of the bed, so both parents (and any siblings!!) can watch and be a part of it ❤️

When siblings are there (like this little miss in her princess costume dress), it’s filled with the cutest learning moments!

I just love being witness to this and documenting this part of the story - the little details, the curious siblings, and everyone getting a good look at this new baby up close.

I really love these quiet moments after birth. Everyone is tired but full of love, overwhelmed, and taking in the fact that this tiny baby is finally here!

These are the little details that can be hard to remember later - those first sleepy breaths, the way they fit in your arms, that tiny hand or little face.

That’s one of my favorite things about birth photography! It’s not just about the birth itself - about remembering all the little pieces that make up the story of those first moments together 🤍

Seeing those first few baby hand-offs between brand new parents always makes me smile!

The slow, careful movements, not quite knowing what to do with hands and arms, the deep concentration, and the nerves - it’s all completely valid, but I also know how comfortable and confident they get with every bit of it in just a few days ❤️

That bathroom walk during labor - who knows it?!

The cords for the monitors, the IV pole, the slow shuffle to the bathroom and back, the way your support people jump up to help with all the things, showing you that you aren’t alone.

The photographer in me loves catching these moments for families to look back on the teamwork involved during labor.

The doula in me LOVES all of the movement changes involved in a bathroom break whether it’s in the hospital with some extra things or not - mama has to get upright, walk, sit, stand, lean, walk back, then get comfortable again in or around the bed. It’s like a mini circuit because of all those position changes 👏🏼 Plus, my clients know how excited I get about toilet contractions and each time they’ve heard me call out “sit there for 5-10 contractions, and I’m here if you need!” We birthworkers don’t call the toilet the “dilation station” for nothing!

Birth tells a story of teamwork, of strength, of endurance, and of love. And I’m always here for it ❤️

A little bit of sweet, a little bit of chaos, and a whole lot of love while awaiting the arrival of their new baby!

Family sessions are always so fun - sometimes kids have other plans, someone is making a ridiculous face, everyone is laughing, and we just roll with it 😂

But I always love a gallery with a combination of sweet moments, slightly posed portraits, smiling faces, and everything in-between ❤️

I don’t usually get to hang out with my clients for a few days before taking their photos…but when it’s your cousin who lives out of state, you get the full experience 😂

I spent a few days with these three, helping out, snuggling baby Leo, keeping mama hydrated, and just soaking in all the new baby goodness! And in the midst of that, we had a morning of photos.

I love that these feel like them - figuring out life with their brand new little guy, and completely smitten with him!

Love y’all so much. Thanks for letting me be part of these first few days. And Leo…you’ve got a whole lot of people who are crazy about you already 🫶🏻
