I often think about how lucky I am to take some of the very first photographs a person will ever have!

Just moments old, existing in the world for the first time, and already so deeply loved.

I’m only there for a tiny part of their story, but I get to preserve the very beginning of it.

And that will never stop feeling like an honor ❤️

My favorite little sunflower field in Kaplan is blooming, so I would love to do some sessions!

I’m currently not on-call sooo I have flexibility with evenings over the next week or so!

Flowers usually bloom for about 2 weeks and will be looking great through this weekend for sure, but with rain in the forecast we never know how it will affect the flowers. The best time for sessions is within about an hour of sunset, so that puts sessions happening between 7-8pm.

A portion of each session is donated to the farm for St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 🌻

It’s such an honor to be the one who captures the very first photos of a new baby’s life! The little details, the sweet expressions, the way every part of them is so tiny, and every little thing they do is brand new and adorable 😍

And then on a veryyy rare occasion, I get the chance to hold baby on their birth day!! I will never ever ask, but sometimes extra hands are needed, or I’m supporting a friend and/or repeat client and they excitedly ask me to hold baby - and it fills me with such joy!

This work y’all. It sure is special 🫶🏻

I don’t think I’ll ever stop being fascinated by twins!

Two tiny babies who shared a home for months, now side by side in the world together. The way they curl into each other, settle when they’re close, and seem so perfectly content together is just the sweetest thing!

These boy/girl twins were all snuggles and sleepy sweetness, and I could have photographed them all day 🤍

I love watching baby’s tiny little expressions change as they sleep - it always makes me giggle! And of course I’m thrilled when I’m able to capture those fleeting little moments ❤️

There’s something so special about slow time spent together before everything changes ❤️

I was their birth photographer and doula, and we spent the afternoon in their home for their final prenatal appointment and this maternity session - just the two of them, the sweetest dog, and all the quiet excitement of baby coming soon! The light was perfect, they looked stunning, and the whole session felt so easy and full of love.

We ended sitting across from each other talking through birth plans and hopes for labor while I snapped the final photos in between conversations! Those moments remind me this work is about so much more than photos 🫶🏻

One of my favorite things about birth center care is how baby’s newborn assessment is done right there on the bed next to mom (usually while she’s eating a meal). No rushing away to the other side of the room at the one-hour mark, and no bright warmer lights, just gentle care within reach of both parents.

And goodness, midwives just carry this quiet strength and calm confidence while they work. It’s always so beautiful to witness 🫶🏻

Skin-to-skin snuggles with Dad ❤️

I like to suggest that Dad wear a zip-up hoodie or a button-up shirt to make this easier! Though I’ve seen plenty of dads either squish baby under their shirt or take their shirt off altogether 😂 Those first warm snuggles are so sweet and help to regulate baby’s breathing, heart rate, and temperature (and dad’s, too)!
