I'm really pleased with how this came out. While most of my images are many photos encompassing hours of exposure stacked together to pull out dim nebulosity, this image is a single photo of the Hyades open cluster. This is the closest star cluster to the sun. The bright, yellow star dead center is Aldebaran, and is not actually a part of the cluster but nonetheless adds a striking centerpoint to this particular region of the night sky! This image will look best fullscreen, as you will be able to see all of the individual star colors.

I drove a few hours out to Portal, AZ, last night to have some more night sky fun. Here is Cygnus, including the North American and Pelican Nebulae(top left), the Sadyr Region(middle right), and the Veil Nebula(bottom). Enjoy!

Considering my winter plans for astrophotography projects. This is a single image of the Heart and Soul Nebulae as well as a double cluster near the top of the image. If one shot can look like this...I wonder what I could get with an hour or two.

If any of you enjoyed yesterday's landscape comet photo, here is one of just the comet, having risen higher into the sky. This was taken around 4:10, about 20 minutes after yesterday's image.

This morning I got the opportunity to see and photograph my first comet! This particular comit has an orbital period of 6766 years...I'll let you do the math on when it will be back once it leaves us. For now, you can still see this comet in the early morning hours if you have keen eyes! More photos of this guy will be coming along as I keep editing the shots I got.

You will probably need click this to view this one full size with it being a vertical composition. The clouds made this a herculean task as I ended up having to hand stitch the pano of 7 images, which I have never done before. Hope you guys like!

Some milky way goodness. I came back from Kofa wildlife refuge with 76 gigs of images, so I'm going to take my time sifting through it all. Man, I am glad everything is digital now. I would never be able to afford taking 2700 photographs on film! 😂

My old ford focus would never have made it out to this spot. So glad to have a capable vehicle to get me out to cool places to take photos! This is from Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, out near Yuma, AZ.

With all the fire lately, I think a more peaceful scene is due. This was a beautifully pastel sunset from on top of Mt. Lemmon pointing to the north looking out over layers of mountains in the distance.

I have always admired this building as one of the most beautiful buildings in Tucson. Despite that, I have never photographed it. With the fires raging as a backdrop, the Temple seemed to me to be a strong symbol of hope standing in front of disaster. I really hope the crews are able to gain control of the wildfire as soon as possible.
