πŸ‘‘ One thing I love about vacation is that it reminds me to be present. I am not thinking about tomorrow, no making another to-do list. I am just enjoying where I am and I don't do that nearly enough.

I'm someone who's always dreaming up the next project or planning the next thing, but this week I am giving myself permission to pause, because the work will still be there when I get home.

The memories I'm making this week are worth slowing down for.

Birthday Reflection:

When I was a kid, I thought adults had all the answers. Turns out, most of us are just doing our best, we're learning as we go, changing our minds, and growing through things we never expected.

I don't have all the answers, but I do know this, I'm a whole lot kinder to myself than I used to be. And that feels like a pretty good trade for having everything figured out.

Today's Birthday Reflection:
I officially start my birthday vacation today! Everything for the next week will consist of colorful bikinis, comfy clothes, the book I've been wanting to read, and all the things that make me feel like me.

I think that's one of my favorite parts about getting older, you stop trying so hard to impress everyone else, and you start paying more attention to what actually brings you joy.

I'm really looking forward to taking this week to rest, celebrate another year of life, and come home with a full heart.

And don't worry... the birthday celebration isn't slowing down! I've got posts scheduled, surprises planned, and we're getting so close to my birthday on the 28th. πŸŽ‰

When people think about my job, they usually picture the finished photos, and don't get me wrong, those are great, but that's not the best part!! The best part is when someone forgets they're nervous, it's when we both start laughing, it's when someone looks at the back of my camera and says, "Wait... that's actually me?"

Those are the moments I remember, because they're real.

Today's Birthday Reflection:

Yesterday I shared how I realized I'd decorated my house for who I thought I was supposed to be instead of who I really am, and that got me thinking.

Where else have I done that? For a long time I believed I had to be perfect to be loved, the perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect mom, the one who always had it together, and the one who never needed help.

This year has taught me something very different, perfection isn't what connects us, honesty does, the messy conversations, the moments we admit, "I'm struggling." The moments we realize we're all figuring it out as we go.

I don't have everything figured out, but I am learning to let go of the version of me that thought she had to earn love by getting everything right.

For a long time I thought my home needed to look a certain way, what? I thought others wanted to see. But then I realized this wasn't a home that I loved. It was a home everyone else would approve of so I changed it. Not because beige is bad but because beige isn't me!!!

Now my home is colorful, bold and a little chaotic (like me), And when I look around I am so happy because it feels like me!!

I decorated my house in warm tans, browns, with a boho vibe, it was cute, people always complimented me on things, but every time I looked around and I didn't like it!!! I decorated my house for who I thought I needed to be but it's not ME.

In trying to please everyone else, I lost me, and if anywhere should feel like me, it should be my home. So it was time to change that!!

I found this bold bright jewel color wallpaper design that I fell in love with and everything changed!! Now I have a pink rug in my living room, a teal cheetah print rug in my dining room, pink velvet curtains, and I LOVE IT!!!

Some people will probably think it's too much, like my son at first, but every time I walk through my house now, I smile, because it finally feels like ME!!!

That's what healing has looked like for me lately, not becoming someone different, but giving myself permission to stop trying to fit into someone else's version of who I should be.

πŸ’­ Myt Random Thought: If you've always wanted the colorful rug, buy the damn thing!!!!! Life is way too short to decorate your life for someone else's approval. πŸ’–

We spend so much of life waiting for a good enough reason to celebrate, a promotion, birthday, anniversary, goal, or a milestone. But why do we need a reason? What if being here, and making it through the hard season, growing into who you're becoming is reason enough?

One thing this year has reminded me is that celebration doesn't always have to be loud. Sometimes it's simply noticing how far you've come and choosing joy on an ordinary day. I hope you find one little thing to celebrate today. Even if it's just yourself.
