International Home Birth Day

Today we celebrate the beauty, strength, and sacredness of birth at home. šŸ”ā¤ļø

This image captures a moment that will forever be etched in my heart. Abby welcomed her son, Zyaire, into the world in my living room, surrounded by the people who loved her. Her sister, Alexis, was by her side offering steady support through every wave. Grandma Jeannie helped catch her grandson and then looked over at me through tears, because we were both crying as we witnessed the miracle unfolding before us. Midwife Khamissa guided the journey with skill and calm presence.

Home birth is not just about where a baby is born. It’s about being surrounded by love, trust, and the people who make you feel safe enough to do the hardest and most beautiful work of your life.

Happy International Home Birth Day to all the families, midwives, doulas, and birth workers who make these moments possible. ā¤ļø

I had the amazing opportunity to interview Alberta, the owner of Effie Mae’s Kitchen in Zephyrhills. My studio is right behind her restaurant off Allen Road and SR54, and I’ve been waiting for a good restaurant to open nearby so my newborn parents can grab something delicious to eat while I’m photographing their newborn sessions.

Yesterday I got to sit down with Alberta and hear the story behind Effie Mae’s Kitchen. Through laughter and tears, I learned about the deep love she had for her mom, how she was raised around cooking, and how her mother was truly her best friend. You can feel the heart and soul behind every part of this restaurant.

If you haven’t been yet, don’t miss Soul Food Sunday this week!!

Lately I’ve been adding a lot more real estate photography to my portfolio and this weekend’s job was definitely one for the books. Apparently real estate photography sometimes includes fumigation too šŸ˜‚

My husband just wrapped up this project and I had to get the drone up for these shots before the sun went down. A jack of all trades over here, but honestly real estate photography pairs perfectly with birth work because if I get called to a birth… the building will still be there tomorrow.

From babies to buildings, I just love documenting spaces and stories in every season of life.

Yesterday was a busy day.

Got called at 4:30am to go photograph a birth. His due date was actually today, but he decided to arrive a day early on a new moon. This little guy gave mom and midwife a real challenge with a shoulder dystocia, and at one point I had to throw down my camera to assist the midwife. Baby boy was born at 7:13am weighing 10 pounds. Mom and baby are both healthy, and I walked away with an even deeper respect for midwife Sarah.

Then somehow I made it to my studio by 11am for a newborn session with another sweet baby boy just over two weeks old.

At 7pm, I squeezed in an engagement session with a couple so in love it was honestly the cutest thing ever. I love photographing couples like that. No prompts, no awkward posing, just interacting and loving each other the way they naturally do.

Longest day, and honestly it’s been a long week. So much editing ahead of me, but I truly love what I do.

Back on track starting today šŸ’Ŗ

Nothing like some solid cardio to reset and start the week strong. I modified a bit, kept it intentional, and moved my body in a way that felt good.

Only did two rounds, finished with a 1000m row, then got outside and walked two miles. Exactly what I needed.

It’s been nice being off call for a couple weeks, getting a little breathing room, but today I’m officially back on call for a May home birth šŸ¤ ready to step back into that space and hold it well.

movement, fresh air, purpose. let’s go.

Sometimes birth doesn’t go as planned… but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. ā¤ļø

As a doula supporting families who choose to give birth at TGH, I’m always grateful when I’m able to stay with my client every step of the way, even into the operating room during a cesarean when permitted. When baby is born and dad goes with the baby, I get to remain with mom, holding space, offering comfort, and reminding her she is not alone.

This family holds such a special place in my heart. Walking through the unexpected with them only deepened that bond.

This birth also taught me something I’ll carry forward… when it came time for her epidural, her husband stayed with her, which is often the default. She ultimately didn’t end up getting it, and when I came back in, she shared that she wished I had been there with her in that moment.

It was such a powerful reminder that sometimes that transition point is when a mom needs her doula the most. From now on, this is something I will be more intentional about with my clients, making sure they feel fully supported in those moments.

Also, new OR hack unlocked… sunglasses šŸ˜Ž because those lights are no joke.

And in the end, sweet baby Rose made her beautiful entrance on Valentine’s Day, a perfect coincidence for a baby already named and destined to be surrounded by so much love. 🌹

In honor of Cesarean Awareness Month, sharing this story as a reminder that every birth, planned or not, is worthy of support, respect, and celebration.

*This mom hired me as her doula/photographer. I am also a certified OR doula at TGH but not employed by TGH.

Sweet dreams, Baby PJ šŸ¤

Born 4/10 weighing 8 lbs 10.5 oz, this big, beautiful boy made his entrance at In Due Season Birth Center… surrounded by love, strength, family and a whole lot of pride.

This mama brought him into the world so powerfully, with his grandmother, midwife Lucie, right there by her side, something truly special. Moments like this remind me that birth isn’t just powerful… it’s deeply personal.

Sometimes you choose a birth center because it feels like family… and sometimes, it really is šŸ¤

Honored to capture these first quiet moments ā¤ļø
