I always wanted a big sister and at 42 years old I managed to find her here in Garzon. It was in Heidi Lender’s kitchen 5 years ago that I looked around at the light in her kitchen and realized I wanted to quit my job and move here. Heidi is one of the few people in my life who I feel safe enough around to be vulnerable and long winded about my life- aside from my family, I’ve never had many folks that fill that roll.

A couple weeks ago Heidi sat for a portrait amidst the construction of Porfia Project which is opening in our upcoming summer as an artist residency. Her 150 year old converted sheep farm, in rolling hills outside Garzon, will become a place for likeminded folks to live, eat, collaborate, and make art ❤️

Analog Photography Workshop in Uruguay!

Come escape the cold this winter and learn to shoot, process, and print film from a large format view camera. The cost is $5,000 USD and is limited to 3 students max. Food, drink, accommodation, and airport transfers are all covered.

Students will leave with a complete understanding of this analog process and will be given access to people and places deep within the Uruguayan countryside.

This will be an intimate experience inside my home, studio, and community. ❤️

I spent this week with The Current by Urban Electric Co. while they followed me around the Uruguayan countryside taking pictures and videos of me while I worked. I’ve not been with a photo crew in a long time and I’ve never had anyone document my work here. It was wonderful. PLEASE READ… this is my friend Ivan, he was arrested by ICE and spent 21 months in detention. Ivan was a pediatric surgeon in Russian and lived a quiet life with his 2 daughters until he was drafted to fight in the war. Because he is half Ukrainian and ideologically opposed to violence he made the decision to flee to the United States under protected refugee status in hopes of continuing to practice medicine. When he arrived for his first meeting with government officials he was detained by ICE and spent roughly 2 years in detention. While in detention he learned English by studying a dictionary and conversing with his guards. He’s been released/deported and has made his way to Uruguay. He will be unable to practice medicine again until he’s able to gain fluency in Spanish. In the meantime he’s looking for remote work in order to make a life here and bring his daughters over from Russia. When I asked what kind of salary he needs he said $1,000/mo. This is a highly educated, skilled man who’s lost everything. If you know of anything: data entry, telecommunication, research and development…etc please send me a message and I can connect you with Ivan. His English is lovely. I’ve spent hours listening to his awful stories of incarceration and one thing I’ve learned is that this can really happen to anyone. Help if you can ❤️
