Turkey Season 2026…

A month and a half long stretch of early mornings, miles on the boots, and lots of time spent in the woods. I was fortunate enough to share the season with a lot of good friends…celebrating the highs when things came together and learning from the lows when they didn’t. No matter how each hunt played out, we still got the chance to be out there, enjoying this great privilege we get to take part in every year.

I pushed the season a little further and headed out to the Black Hills, chasing more time in the turkey woods. We didn’t come home with success in the way most people define it, but we came back with something just as valuable: experience, knowledge, and a better understanding of turkey hunting in the west. I’m already looking forward to hopefully taking another trip out there next season.

As always, I’ve got to thank my wife for not batting an eye at me disappearing into the turkey woods for a month and a half. That kind of support makes all of this possible more than anything else.

Lastly, thank you to everyone for the continued support on the page and videos. Every like, comment, message, and view means more than you know and keeps me motivated to keep sharing these hunts.

Another season in the books. I’m grateful for every hunt, every mile, and every memory made. Already looking forward to the next one.

Thank you, Spring 2026🦃🙌

Black Hills, South Dakota. Merriam’s country🦃

We went into this trip completely blind with zero experience hunting the area, just wanting to chase a new subspecies and experience a different kind of turkey hunting. For 3 full days we put on miles through the Black Hills trying to figure these birds out.

The biggest challenge was the lack of gobbling after fly down. Birds would sound off on the roost, hit the ground, and then go almost completely quiet. Even some locals told us the turkeys had started getting non-vocal earlier than usual this year. It made for some long days of covering ground, second guessing moves, and trying to learn the terrain on the fly.

But honestly, that’s what made the trip special.

The Black Hills felt endless. Huge country, unique ponderosa timber, steep ridges, and views that made every hike worth it whether we tagged a bird or not. We learned a ton about hunting Merriam’s, explored incredible public land, and gained a whole new respect for hunting that kind of terrain.

We may not have had the success we hoped for this time, but we’re leaving with a lot more knowledge than we showed up with — and that alone made the trip worth it. One thing’s for sure… we’ll be back, and next time we’ll be even more prepared.

Not every hunt goes how you picture it, but this one reminded us why we love doing it in the first place. New places, hard hunts, good people, and memories that make the miles worth it every single time. 🙌

Turkey season is slipping away fast here in Iowa. The last tag in my vest is still unfilled after a lot of miles, long hours spent in the woods, quiet mornings, and birds that just wouldn’t cooperate. That’s turkey hunting though — sometimes it’s skill, sometimes it’s patience, and sometimes it’s just being in the right place at the right time with the right gobbler willing to play with a little bit of luck thrown in the mix. Until that final day comes, I’ll keep showing up. 👊🦃 How’s everyone’s season been?👇

🦃Natural born survivor.

Every old gobbler in the woods has beaten predators, hunting pressure, storms, and close calls more times than most people realize. That’s what makes them different and harder to kill. One mistake is all it takes, so they learn to move quiet, stay sharp, and trust nothing.

‘Survival of the Fittest’ felt right for this one.🩸
