I actually finished these a bit ago, but didn't get around to posting them. Days 28 (camera), 29 (road), and 30 (jumbo) for . I decided early on in this challenge that it was okay to finish late, as long as I finished. I just have the last prompt "landmark" to go.

Prompt 28 Camera: I realize that this isn't a drawing of a camera, but this prompt didn't thrill me so I drew a picture I took with my camera.

Prompt 29 Road: Lord of the Rings was in the back of my mind when drawing this.

Prompt 30 Jumbo: I kind of wish that I drew the small pumpkin smaller to exaggerate the difference. A thought for next time.

This one was fun. I ordered a big set of the Kuretake ZIG Clean Color markers and they finally came! They're water-based so they'll be more versatile than an alcohol-based.
Drawing for day 25: scarecrow. Wanted to get in some fun fall colors, especially as the outdoors are looking rather brown and boring now. No special story for this one, just a bit of fun.

It's been a few days since I've posted. Is anyone else just...really tired? Like the tiredness is in your bones? It's been a bit tough the last week or so to keep myself drawing.
Either way, here's day 24: expedition. I love learning about explorers and discoveries and even more about how they manage to go wrong. In this case the Franklin Expedition.
The expedition departed England in May 1845 seeking the Northwest Passage with two ships: HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. They reached North America, were seen by two British whaling ships in July 1845, and then became Inuit legend. The Inuit accounts were originally brushed off by Europeans only to be verified later, and more evidence was found after both ships were discovered on the sea floor. In the end a combination of starvation, hypothermia, lead poisoning (from tinned food), scurvy, and the conditions in the North led to the demise of all 129 crewmen.
This was just one of many expeditions to find the Northwest Passage (later discovered to be passages). I was originally going to draw both ships, but decided one was plenty (it's a lot of rigging to draw).

I know it's been a few days since I've posted, but I promise I've still been drawing. These drawings are ordered from most recent to least recent for prompts Rhinoceros, Uncharted, Ridge, and Drive.

I've noticed that as I do this challenge my confidence while drawing has increased, which is great because confidence tends to mean better, cleaner lines. I'm actually pretty happy with most of these, though I wish I hadn't colored "Drive"—my color theory needs some work. Also the colored Tombow markers get dark more quickly than I'm used to.

Day 16: Grungy. I originally thought grungy like grunge music/fashion, but it's October and I felt like getting into the spooky vibes, so it ended up being this creepy woman. I thought maybe she was a ghost that has some kind of disease spreading everywhere, dress tattered and wandering dead-eyed staring at anyone nearby.
I tried Tombow dual brush markers for this one and it's definitely more tricky than Kuretake ZIG clean color, simply because the color payoff is more aggressive. I did enjoy the process of this drawing though, so I'll definitely be playing with them more.

I have two drawings today just because of how travelling worked out. The first is for Inktober Day 14: Roam. I thought about some children wandering a lovely meadow having a nice time. The second is for Inktober day 15: Guidebook. We often hear about famous explorers and the places they've gone, but regularly don't talk about some of the most important people on the journey: local guides. Local knowledge and manpower is essential for so many expeditions, continuing today even on mountains like Everest, where sherpas often do the majority of the manual labour of carrying as well as leading the way. So many people would be clueless without local involvement.
I've noticed with my art recently that I'm becoming a bit more confident than I have been in the past. Sure there are things I don't like that need improvement, but so what? Doing art is an integral part of learning and growing. I realized that I often shoot myself in the foot while drawing people in ink simply by making everything too small. Something to work on in the coming days!

I did finish a drawing yesterday, but by the time I finished I was ready to pass out. Day 13: Horizon. I decided I didn't like my original plan and went hunting for something else. Eventually I landed on this. I might actually like to re-explore this idea at some point a bit more thoroughly and possibly in a different medium.

Time for Day 12: Remote. The first thing that landed in my head was winter camping up north. No lights except the stars and fire. As much as I don't particularly enjoy winter, it really is the best time for the most spectacular stargazing.

Day 11: Snacks. It took me a while to decide what I wanted this to be. In the end I thought about my little Leopard Gecko (who ironically has no spots) and her favorite snack, hornworms.

Time for Day 10: Nomadic. Originally I thought I might explore Mongol Yurts and horses, but realized there was something closer to home that fit the bill. Caribou are well-known for their migration so I thought I'd draw that. It ended up being trickier to draw than I thought! A third of the way through the month and still going.
