I vividly remember a project we had in second grade to go with our study of the ocean. We picked our favorite sea creature, drew it in crayon and then used watered down blue paint to fill in the ocean. My hammerhead shark came alive and I remember looking at it in amazement - this is the first drawing I remember. I love Harrison County with all its history and natural beauty. I have been collectin
g photos of the seasons, wildflowers, landmarks for over 15 years and am using my "visual file" as a creative source. My current artwork involves my love of photography, drawing and now painting. I combine pen and ink drawings with Photoshop to create digital paintings. 2016 marked my foray into actual painting with commissions to design and paint two large bison sculptures as part of Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration. I painted the Bison for Harrison County and the Bison for Clark County Soil & Water District which is displayed at the Clark 4-H Fairgrounds as of 6/17/17. I enjoy designing and have made posters, programs and advertising for Hayswood Theatre and the Artisan Center in Corydon, IN, as well as photo documentation of events and shows. My work with Hayswood has led me into set design and painting and that challenged me to move from small scale art into a much larger universe. My father and grandmother were teachers and I have been able to carry on that tradition. After completing my art degree I studied art education, student teaching at Bedford-North Lawrence in their amazing art department. I have had the fortune to be a Visiting Artist at Lanesville, IN, working with David Heinke and Martha Beckort for several sessions. I very much enjoy teaching and working with students.
