Clervaux - Cité de l'image Photography in open space Since more than ten years the Family of Man is situated in the castle of Clervaux.

The permanent exhibition is an important element for Clervaux and for the history of photography. This collection of photographs represents the basis of the project "cité de l'image" and defines all reflexion that gives attention to photography. To always stimulate anew the engagement with the historical collection, it is necessary to be confronted with contemporary works. In fact, the promotion o

f contemporary photography in the region is one of the basic concerns of the organisers. The "cité de l'image" proposes different independent projects all around the photographic image. Various events - exhibitions, ateliers, and conferences - are organized to strongly emphasise the identity of Clervaux. All of this is meant to analyse the role of the images within the actual social and local countryside. The project serves as platform for artists from the region, from the Grand Duchy and from foreign countries.

In the exhibition OURs, artist Karin Schmuck presents for the first time works created during her 2025 artist residency at the Ermitage in Clervaux.

During her stay in Clervaux, Karin Schmuck explored the Our Valley on foot – from the Belgium-Luxembourg-Germany tri-border area to Wallendorf.

Exhibition TRACE DE PASSAGE by Marie Capesius.

In September 2024, Marie Capesius was invited by Clervaux – Cité de l’Image an the municipality of Stilfs to spend a month as an artist in residence in the South Tyrolean village of Stilfs. A year later, in September 2025, she spent another month in residence at the Ermitage in Clervaux.
The exhibition ‘TRACE DE PASSAGE’ brings together works created during these two residencies. The focus is on psychogenealogy – the question of how family influences and transgenerational experiences shape our thoughts, feelings and actions.

On show until May 17, 2026.
