This moment in Pushkar wasn’t planned.
A few women sit quietly along a wall, facing the open sky, taking a pause from the day. No movement, no intention—just rest.

While Pushkar is often seen through its rituals and crowds, scenes like this exist in the background, where everyday life continues without notice. The sky may be simple, but the stillness carries its own weight.

Sometimes the photographs that stay with you are the ones taken while wandering, when nothing is happening—yet everything feels real.

Waiting, watching, and resting after a long day of trade.
During the Pushkar Fair, camel traders stay on the outskirts of town, living simply in temporary camps for days or weeks. After long hours of bargaining and tending to their animals, evenings slow down.

They gather in small circles, sharing stories of routes traveled and fairs past, sipping tea and smoking tobacco-filled chilams—a common, traditional practice in rural Rajasthan. Laughter, silence, and smoke drift together under the open sky.

For the traders, Pushkar is not just business. It is a rare pause in a hard, moving life—where work, rest, and community come together.

Camels, commerce, and centuries of desert history 🏜️🐪
Once a year, Pushkar becomes a major trading ground during the Pushkar Fair, held around Kartik Purnima. Camel traders arrive from across Rajasthan, bringing their livestock to buy, sell, and exchange—following practices that have existed for centuries.

The fair has long been an important meeting point for desert communities, combining livestock trade with seasonal gathering and tradition.

Even today, the Pushkar Fair reflects the deep connection between the region’s people, their livelihoods, and the desert way of life.

Where the soul feels calm.
Pushkar Lake lies at the center of the town, encircled by 52 sacred ghats leading to waters believed to be created when Lord Brahma dropped a lotus. It is one of the holiest lakes in India.

Pilgrims gather here daily to offer prayers and take ritual dips, especially during Kartik Purnima, when the ghats glow with lamps and devotion. Bathing is done with reverence, preserving the lake’s sanctity.

More than a view, Pushkar Lake is a living symbol of faith and tradition, reflected in every step of its ghats.
