Guess that bird from the first picture…

If you said Crowned Lapwing you got it! While editing this photo I was struck by the sharp detail / variation on the feathers and then realized you could also perfectly see our safari truck in the reflection of its eye (3rd photo). We spent an absurd amount of time on safari trying to catch various birds in flight but I’ll start with one on the ground for now. This lapwing almost went unnoticed if our guide hadn’t heard it chirping on the side of the road as it protected its two eggs that perfectly blended in with the rocks!

Waking up my photography account after a long nap just like my leopard friend here. Planning to share some of the thousands of photos we took in Kenya on our honeymoon back in December, bear with me as I try to sort through all the good and the bad.

This was our second or third day on safari and while Ashlyn went back to the camp for a nap, I asked our phenomenal guide John if we could skip lunch and go back into the Mara for more. We were extremely fortunate to find Luluka lounging in the sun, and caught her just as she woke up from a nap by a watering hole and began prowling the savannah for a meal. We followed her for over an hour and it was one of my favorite experiences of the whole trip. More to come of Luluka and the rest of our trip but I have to start somewhere! JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge treated us so well and I can’t wait to share more.

And finally, here are all the angles of Denali’s North and South summits looming above the rolling hills of the park. What a view! It’s hard to capture the scale of such a huge mountain but we were lucky to catch a break in the clouds to see both peaks.

Glacial rivers cut through Denali National Park near where the road ~currently~ ends. A massive landslide has the road closed at mile 43 out of 92, yes I said 92! It’s crazy to think we didn’t even get halfway to the end of the road but the views were all phenomenal up to this point.

It doesn't get much cooler (literally) than two bald eagles hanging on an iceberg! I love how much they stand out against the cool colors of College Fjord, it makes for a really striking scene. Last shot is a bonus eagle we saw floating around in Glacier Bay National Park!
