🐍 Looking for a jaw-dropping piece of World War II aviation history? Meet the P-63 "Fatal Fang" Kingcobra! With its striking bare-metal finish and the fierce, beautiful cobra nose art painted perfectly over its fuselage, this rare warbird is a true masterpiece of military art and engineering.
Developed by Bell Aircraft as a powerful successor to the P-39 Airacobra, the Kingcobra featured a massive 37mm cannon firing straight through the propeller hub and an Allison V-12 engine mounted uniquely behind the pilot.
But what really makes "Fatal Fang" stand out is its stunning namesake artwork. The fierce, fanged cobra draped over the nose perfectly captured the bold, rebellious spirit of WWII nose art. It gave this legendary "flying snake" a distinct, menacing personality to match its incredible firepower.
Because of the war's shifting needs, many P-63s (including some target versions famously used for bomber gunnery practice known as "flying pinballs") saw heavy service via the Lend-Lease program before being retired.
Today, seeing a P-63 in the sky is an incredibly rare treat. The "Fatal Fang" (P-63A-7) is housed and beautifully maintained by the Yanks Air Museum in Chino, California. After a massive, decades-long restoration project by the museum's team and expert mechanics, this historic beauty triumphantly returned to the California skies.
