Special Places Camping, Canoeing, Forest, Water, Wildlife Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 The stretch of North Saskatchewan River between Rocky Mountain House and Drayton Valley is not spectacular. There are no mountains, no waterfalls, no deserts, no open vistas. It is a pretty standard river flowing t...

As a photographer and occasional designer, I am used to directing visual attention within a frame or screen, but the larger question of where we direct our attention in life is far more important.

Attention Business, Forest, Landscape, Winter Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 Attention is contagious. I am more likely to pay attention to things you pay attention to. And so we have the power to affect what other people pay attention to, whether they agree or disagree with us. This simple truth has hel...

A snowberry plant and grass in Elk Island the other day. I really enjoy slowing down enough to appreciate the little arrangements made by sun, snow, and wind.

Wild Sarsaparilla forms a shin-high carpet in this forest near Chickakoo Lake. The whole plant is edible, but mostly the roots and young shoots are used for emergency food or to make tea. Just don't mistake it for poison ivy, which can look similar when it's young.
