Wednesday evening 7:30 PM London time I will be presenting my keynote lecture Svalbard Exposed on the Photography Experts online platform. I have been presenting this work on several international photo festivals but this is the first time I will do it online. The lecture will be familiar to some, but there will also be a lot of new material from my latest visits to the Norwegian Arctic. Sign up and join me on Wednesday evening on the link below. Please note that should you not be able to see the lecture live you will be sent a link to view it at your own leisure within 72 hours.

Tuesday this week I will be hosting a webinar on the Photography Experts online platform on my “Antarctic journey”. In this lecture I will take you on an adventure starting on the Falkland Islands, through the magnificent South Georgia beaches and down to the white continent of Antarctica. The talk is based on my many expeditions in the area, hosting tours for WildPhoto Travel and there will also be a Q&A session afterwards for those that wants to get in touch.

I’m really looking forward to this and hope to see many of you logged on at 20:30 CET on Tuesday 1. June. See link below for booking details.

Talking to a glaciologist in Svalbard I was told that the glaciers up here are retreating 80 meters on average. Some of them as much as 200-300 meters!! In addition to the classic melting and run off as seen on the picture from Austfonna, we also have several surging glaciers that are collapsing on top and flooding into the ocean. A lot of people are asking me what is the biggest change I see in the Arctic with a warmer climate, and for me it is the glaciers. The changes up here are faster than anywhere else in the world and it is scary to watch. The image was captured on our latest WildPhoto Travel expedition this August.

After months of hard work it was an amazing feeling to be back onboard our expedition ship the MS Origo and sail into the Arctic wilderness ones again. Svalbard has been more or less inexplicable since March so when we left the harbor in Longyearbyen we were the only expedition ship in the Svalbard waters. This was a true expedition in every way!

We are still running our tours, and hope to finish the season with many more amazing encounters. Due to the unique situation we do have some available spots for those adventurous people that are looking for a great escape. Check out WildPhoto Travel for updates from the field, and also our website for available spots this year or in 2021.

Next week, Svalbard will finally end the strict quarantine regulations, and I can't wait to come back to photograph great Arctic landscapes, Polar bears and other wildlife. WildPhoto Travel we will first only be able to welcome Norwegian photographers and because of our unfortunate situation this year we have a unique July offer (in Norwegian below):

This is one of my last sightings of Polar bears in the 2019 Svalbard season, while guiding for WildPhoto Travel onboard our expedition ship the MS Origo. I wonder where this female and her beautiful cubs are now, and if I will see them again when I return? Go follow WildPhoto Travel if you want to come with me and my colleagues to Svalbard in the future!

I have spent a great few days in the Norwegian mountains photographing Musk Ox with WildPhoto clients. This was my first «test» with Sony in a cold environment (Antarctica in November isn’t really that cold
) and I was curious to see how it handled these conditions. This is also my favorite conditions to photograph wildlife so it is important for me that the gear does the job.

Overall I was very happy and I was also glad to see that the battery capability was quite good. It is not the same as a DSLR but after a full day shooting and filming in -8 degrees I still had 40 % battery left on my A9. I never used my spares. Setting are written under each image for those interested.

Thanks to Stavanger foto for making sure I always have great gear!!
