The first weeks of the year are always a strange one. Everyone is seemingly starting crash diets, fitness regimes & living cleaner.
One problem with that though is it is always the time of year when most of us are skint!!
However you don’t need to sign up for a massively expensive high street gym or even go to a gym to start to be healthier.
⚫️ Eating better is a great way to start, this however does not mean a fad diet or a crash diet, neither does it mean getting potentially dangerous weight loss jabs & the massive side effects that come along with those.
Start a new eating plan that you can maintain. is no point starving yourself for a few weeks & losing weight for the short term. It is unhealthy & you will probably end up heavier than you started because your metabolism won’t have chance to adjust.
A good way to start is to identify your most unhealthy eating habits & substituting them for a more healthy option. For example, if you get a takeaway once a week with chips, substitute the chips with boiled rice. Then over time get rid of the sides from the takeaway & cook your own or eliminate them altogether. Smaller changes are easier to manage & will inevitably lead yo bigger changes over time.
⚫️ Getting more active generally is also a great way to move to a healthier lifestyle. You don’t have to go for a 10k run in order to be more active.
Use the stairs instead of the lift at work.
Walk the school run rather than drive.
Or simply just go out for a walk! A walk is a low impact way to burn calories & improve your mental & physical health & it costs absolutely nothing. If you think you haven’t got time, ask yourself “how long did I spend on my phone today?” take half of that time to walk if you can, you will be glad you did!
⚫️ Bodyweight exercises, you don’t need equipment to exercise, you can do all manner of bodyweight exercises that can help your mental & physical wellbeing. A few simple ones are
Squats
Lunges
Sit ups
Press ups
Tricep dips
Planks
Tuck jumps
Skips
Calf raises
Just about every muscle group can be worked using a selection of these!
Of course not everyone can get motivated this way & that is what Personal Trainers are for 😉😉.
