Panning is such a difficult technique. Hundreds of photos on the memory card, all trying to get the cyclist in good focus, show the motion in the wheels, and blur the background to show how fast he was riding. Will have to keep on practicing.....

Cafe Life: I shot this photo inside the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul last year. It was dark so it was challenging to get the correct shutter speed I needed. There were also many dark - and very bright - areas in this scene and these had to be combined to create one overall photo which showed the scene as my eyes saw it.

I find simplicity appealing. So when it's possible, I try to photograph something without clutter if possible. This is also copied when I edit, if there are distractions I try to edit these out in Photoshop.

This was shot at night in Bukhara, Uzbekistan a few months ago. The lights, the colours and the shapes against the dark sky tells a story of the atmosphere that night.

Monday morning - a week ahead with lots planned. I hope to have the content for my Beginner's Photo Course ready by the weekend. I've met many who were given a camera but don't have a clue how to use it - what a pity. So the Photo Course will get those intimated by their camera to start using it (and hopefully enjoying it too). If you know of someone who could be interested, let me know. Motto for this week - and title for this image from Uzbekistan: Aiming Upwards :)

I used to have a love-hate relationship with Photoshop. It was so huge, there were so many options and I battled. After 3 years with an incredible tutor - Martin Barber - I now have a love-love relationship with Photoshop. It's just incredible what can be done - if you know how.

I shot this photo in Uzbekistan recently of the woman weaving. Unfortunately she was sitting squashed up into a corner of a dreary room. Nearby was an old mosque with a beautiful green patterned carpet - and the carpet matched the colour of the weaving woman's dress so perfectly.

Thanks to Photoshop I was able to combine the two photos into the one you see below, I have also included the two separate RAW photos which made up this finished one.

Sunday flowers - pink and white Rhododendron - I captured this last year in Europe but didn't know what to 'do' with it. So I played with overlays and textures and ended up with this.
