We have been invited to shoot environments designed for calm and relaxation. Earthy tones and soft edges.

And then we have shot high end luxury sparkle, with flash, reflection and dramatic art pieces. And that is a different approach again.

And a bush lodge at sunset— well that’s all Amarula flavoured filters and glowing lamplight 😆😆

A really great shoot for us is when we are able to tell a brilliant story about something going on in our own communities. We put local knowledge to good use and with a bit of planning and some photographic elbow grease, create some magic.
We loved this project for BallitoUIP who do such a terrific job cleaning, repairing, greening and providing security for us.

It’s a tradition. Every year the The Ballito Pro brings incredible surfing…and some great photo opportunities to town. I almost missed it this year but snuck in a visit in between commercial work.

It is a privilege to be trusted with showing off a client’s product at the stage when they are most proud. It has been an idea that has been developed, improved upon, perfected and then presented for capture. We are allowed to place it in a scene with a location or models or just isolated in studio for capture, and then it is released into the world.

Our approach is clean and uncomplicated. The only downside is that more often than not we fall in love with the product and end up buying it. Our home is full of blankets, shoes, food and more..😆

Every shoot is a similar brief in disguise: tell the client’s story, not just any beautiful story. So we work with angles, light environment people— not to create an illusion of frenetic creativity, but because somewhere in that chaos is the one frame that actually sells the sunset, the plate, the moment. The rest is a sweaty photographer lying on the floor of a fancy location, trying not to spread his gear far and wide and lose track of shotlists while demonstrating poses and balancing a reflector or angling a flash with an unencumbered limb…😆😆😆
