The couple has been married for 24 years, and have two beautiful children, Guinevere (20) also running a small photography business with her studies to be a special needs teacher, and a son, Delarey (16) and proud to be in Grey Collage Bloemfontein. This husband and wife team works together to create a relaxed and enjoyable photo shoot, thereby ensuring that your involvement in creating a beautiful work of art is memorable too. Anneri’s contribution to the success of the business is immeasurable. After 36 years of full-time experience as a professional photographer, the couple runs the studio from Bloemfontein, in central South Africa. From here Johan regularly travels to photo shoots in other parts of the country and beyond South Africa’s borders. Johan has been fortunate to have worked in 30 countries, to have had his photographs published all over the world, and to have had the opportunity to meet the most fascinating people. There’s something pretty spectacular about seeing 20 brand-new Scania trucks lined up together — and even better when you’re the photographer asked to capture it.

Some photographs are beautiful. Others become part of a family’s history.

I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family at one of my favourite places in South Africa — Cathedral Peak Hotel, surrounded by the magnificent Drakensberg mountains.

Byron and Samantha, their children, and Samantha’s mom and dad — three generations together, in one extraordinary place. These are the photographs that become more valuable with every passing year.

After almost four decades behind the camera, I’ve learned that a great family photograph is about far more than owning a good camera. It’s about understanding light, choosing the right location, posing people naturally, working patiently with children, and knowing when to stop directing and simply capture the moments as they happen.

Children grow up. Families change. Time moves frighteningly quickly.

Photographs are what remain.

That’s why I still believe that when it comes to the people who matter most, it’s worth choosing an experienced professional who knows how to create something you’ll be proud to hang on your wall today — and treasure twenty or thirty years from now.

Sometimes one photograph tells the whole story.

Size certainly helps in rugby… but commitment, courage and determination have never been measured in kilograms.

SO CLOSE. SO MUCH FIGHT

A massive battle at Toyota Stadium as the Toyota Cheetahs gave everything against the Airlink Pumas in Sunday’s Currie Cup semi-final.

The Cheetahs fought hard, kept coming back and left everything on the field, but in the end the Pumas held on for a nail-biting 27–24 victory and a place in the Currie Cup final.

It was physical, intense and fiercely contested right to the final whistle — exactly what knockout rugby should be.

Here are a few frames from an afternoon of hard hits, big moments and plenty of emotion in Bloemfontein.

Because sometimes the most important members of the family have four legs. 🐾❤️

A family portrait doesn’t have to be just about the people. For this beautiful couple, their dogs are very much part of their family — so naturally, they had to be part of the photographs too!

Photographing animals can be unpredictable, but that’s where experience counts. After almost four decades behind the camera, I’ve photographed just about everything — and a few excited furry family members certainly don’t scare me.

One day, this photograph will mean far more than it does today.

The children will be grown. The house may be different. Life will have moved on.

But that family portrait on the wall will still tell the story of who you were, where you belonged, and who loved you.

There is something incredibly powerful about children growing up seeing themselves represented in beautiful family photographs in their own home. It tells them: This is my family. This is my place. I am part of this story.

There is a difference between taking a picture and creating a professional portrait.

Good equipment matters. Lighting matters. Posing matters. Expression matters. Retouching matters.
But above all, experience matters.

Some places impress you with their scenery. Others with their people. Moolmanshoek gave me both.

I recently had the privilege of photographing this incredible destination after they beautifully revamped a number of their rooms with fresh new décor and finishes. The goal? To create a library of professional images that truly reflects the experience guests can expect.

We arrived during one of the coldest spells imaginable, with snow dusting the surrounding mountains and temperatures that had us questioning our life choices! ❄️😂
But every frozen finger was worth it.

The views are breathtaking, the accommodation is beautiful, the food is exceptional, and above all, the owners and their children made us feel like part of the family. Their hospitality is something you simply can't photograph... you have to experience it.

Thank you for trusting me with your story. I can't wait to return—preferably when it's a little warmer... although a glass (or two) of red wine might also solve the problem! 🍷

A great professional portrait requires experience: knowing how to light you, pose you, expose correctly and retouch with skill — without turning you into somebody you're not.

A professional headshot is not just someone pointing a camera at you.

It takes proper equipment, professional lighting, correct exposure, flattering posing, attention to detail and skilled retouching to create an image that represents you at your best — while still looking like YOU.

And please, let's stop pretending that fake AI-generated portraits are professional headshots. If that person doesn't actually exist in front of a camera, you're presenting something that isn't real.
