Fees Must Fall - Students March to the Union Buildngs.
In all the years of my photography, I don’t think I’ve captured a more significant picture than the one that opens this image set. These were the days where I had just started as a photojournalist, working with the incredible student newspaper , two weeks in and tear gas x rubber bullets - a baptism of fire some would say, having equally antagonised protestors and police that day.
I could write extensively on how things have changed since, and yet conversely, how the core things have remained the same…about how we witnessed the State respond to the needs of the youth with violence and so much about the role of legacy institutions within all this. About how we witnessed the youth of ‘76 criminalise their own children… and how we witnessed those same children unify - just for a moment and almost bring the nation to a standstill. And how this cry for “free, quality, decolonised education” has been sung for decades, and how it is still wept for.
A lot to say and dissect, but for today, I’ll just remind us of some of the images from the day.

“I'm not what anyone thinks I am. I never was. I didn't have the mouth to put it into words, to say what was wrong, to change the things I felt I needed to change. And every day it was difficult, walking around and knowing that people saw me one way, knowing that they were wrong, so completely wrong, that the real me was invisible to them. It didn't even exist to them. So: If nobody sees you, are you still there?” ― Akwaeke Emezi

~A Happy Memory~
Once upon a time, I was known as the guy who shoots "sunsets and afros"...I'm more than just that, but it kinda always made me smile.

P.S: We really did snap with the silhouette shots - if I do say so myself🤣🔥

I’m sitting watching the last rays of sunset leaving Helsinki as the westerly winter wind makes its presence known through the city tonight.
It’s one of my favourite continuous collaborations at work here -
Myself, , and …I don’t think we’ve ever missed the mark 🔥

"What is my favourite thing that studying has allowed me to do?
Apart from meeting the most incredible, grounding and integral people, studying has allowed me to self-actualise in a way that nothing else has. The realisation of my own potential and development of an appreciation for life and it's spectrums has been invaluable."

Congratulations on your new second degree in Agriculutral studies!

Over the years we've had the truly delightful honour of taking pictures of hundreds of graduates (literally), many of them first generation university students, and sharing some of their stories with you. There's an indescribable feeling of ecstasy when you get to capture a parent looking with such pride, and a family beaming with uncontainable joy, because it truly does take a community to get us here. It doesn't matter how long it takes as it's no race, it's that we get there in the end.

The return of in-person graduations means we get to celebrate such an important milestone with you once again!

Stick around and celebrate these many faces with us. Or, drop a message if you want your special day captured too!

"Making the decision to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." - Elizabeth Stone.

Over the course of the past two years I've been asked to shoot an increasing number of maternity shoots and other family related events - and I absolute love them!! The joy of watching families expand, the hope of the future, the smiles of today... It is truly a heart-warming experience.

I am interested in which colours you like, the warmer bronze tones or the cooler blues?

Gear: Sony A7R III, Sigma 135 1.8 (truly one of my favourite lenses), Godox AD 400 on the right

P.S: Yes, there's definitely more of this shoot coming!

“Umoja ni nguvu – Unity is strength.”

I spent a few days in Nairobi, and I absolutely loved being there! I can't wait to return to travel more of East Africa, and Kenya specifically, and experience the vibrancy of different cultures, and hear their stories.
I definitely hold the view that intra-Africa travel should be much easier and cheaper because there's so much for us all to share with each other!
Here's a friendly face I took a picture of ☺️

Gear: Sony A7R III + Sony 24 1.4 and Tamron 70-180 2.8
