STAYING CALM IN CHAOS

At some stage in our lives, we will all experience chaos.

Sometimes it comes from the world around us. Sometimes it comes through our relationships, our circumstances, or simply through the unexpected turns of life.

But how do we stop ourselves from being pulled into the chaos?

When we are constantly living in stress and uncertainty, our nervous system takes a knock. It affects our health, our relationships, our ability to think clearly and most importantly, our inner peace.

A Teaching from the Peach Blossoms 🌸

You know when you’ve been through a lot?

And when I say a long winter, I don’t mean that it was cold. I mean a long winter of emotion. Tiredness. Exhaustion. Just… a lot.

And then this morning, I opened the door to feed the birds and there they were… the first blossoms on my peach tree. 🌸

There had been a little rain during the night, and everything felt fresh and alive.

I stood looking at those tiny blossoms and thought… Nature really is our temple.

Nature doesn’t rush. It doesn’t question whether it is ready. It simply rests, waits, and when the time is right… it blooms.

Perhaps we don’t need to have all the answers either. Perhaps we simply need to pause, listen, trust the seasons and trust the timing of things unfolding in our lives.

We are not separate from nature. We are nature.

It is the need to control everything that we must let go of.

We don’t always need to learn something new. Perhaps sometimes we need to unlearn, the worry, the anxiety, the constant need to know what comes next.

And instead… learn to trust.

Trust the seasons.
Trust the timing.
Trust life.

And perhaps, after everything, it is simply time to trust that life knows when it is time for us to bloom. 🌸

Sometimes it’s the smallest things that touch the deepest places.

Last week, I photographed a little weaver’s nest, decorated with tiny daisies. I shared the image and my story behind it, never imagining just how much it would resonate with people.

The response was incredible. Thousands of people viewed it, so many, many shared their thoughts, and many reached out to me personally.

The story went viral and was picked up and shared by Good Things Guy South Africa.

What a reminder that small things matter.

A tiny bird.
A nest.
A few little daisies.
A moment of beauty.

And somehow, it touched something deeply human in so many of us.

Perhaps at the end of the day, beneath all the noise and complexity of life, is for us to stop and notice.

The little things are never really little. ❤️

Capturing what I feel and see has been a lifelong journey for me.

One of the places that is very close to my heart is the Transkei. Here, the dogs roam freely through the hills, living alongside the people and becoming part of the landscape.

I came across this beautiful boy just sitting there, quietly guarding his owner’s home.

When I photograph, it is important for me to capture more than just what the eye sees. I want to capture the energy, the spirit and the essence of what my heart sees.

AFRICANIS... a true South African dog, found throughout our rural landscapes.

There was something about this beautiful boy that made me stop. He sat with such presence, proud, watchful and completely at home in his surroundings.

To me, he carries the spirit of a guardian. Almost like a guardian angel for all dogs.

The captain of these hills. ❤️
