The Sacred Ibis

This species is a gregarious bird, living, traveling, and breeding in flocks. In flight, they form diagonal lines or v-formations. This formation decreases wind resistance for trailing birds. When the leader of the pack tires, it falls to the back of the formation and another ibis takes its place at the front. Both the male and female take turns in guarding the nest site until the chicks are large enough to defend themselves. In addition, both parents help feed the chicks.

Conservation status: Endangered (Population decreasing)

The Cape Cormorant is one of over 40 species in the Cormorant family. The common nameโ€‹, Cormorant has been derived from the Latin words โ€˜Corvus Marinusโ€™, which means โ€˜marine crowโ€™ or โ€˜sea ravenโ€™.

In Namibia the population decreased by 57% over the three most recent generations and is classified as Endangered (Kemper and Simmons 2015).

In South Africa, the population also decreased by
>50% during the three most recent generations and is classified as Endangered (Cook 2015, Crawford et al. 2016). The trend in Angola is unknown. However, Angola holds only 2% of the present global population

They have beautiful blue eyes.

These carnivores are one of Africaโ€™s top predators; however, there is a common misconception that they are primarily scavengers.

Unfortunately due to some movies spotted hyenas are not really on the list of top things to see while in Kruger Park. These predators are portrayed as a scavenging villains, but in fact, they are one of the most successful hunters amongst predators in Africa

Wrongly perpetuated as villains, Hyenas are beautiful, intelligent and fascinating to watch on safari.
