alities, Safra works with children outdoors or in a relaxed environment. Her innate understanding of children means that she appreciates each child’s natural temperament and mood. Fun, fresh and at time serious, her work is nuanced and timeless. Safra’s pictures have graced the covers of many children's magazines. She has exhibited alongside Cape Town’s top photographers to raise funds for CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa). Photographing children at play is no child’s play – but one that requires a leading children’s photographer of Safra’s calibre. She snaps children peeping, laughing, thinking, leaping, playing and on that rare occasion just being still. Safra's photographic repertoire includes individual portraiture, particularly children, and group photos of families,birthdays, weddings, religious ceremonies as well as private and corporate events & functions.

Rex de Waal was a service dog, trained by his loving human who raised from a tiny puppy. He intuitively knew when she needed his support - the bond between them was profound and the love they shared was so deep.
When Rex's body started showing signs that he had completed his duty in this form, I was approached to do a shoot to honour this beautiful boy and the love shared between him and his human mama.
His mom chose one of his favourite places, the beach, and knowing his hips were tired, we chose a time an place where the sand would be hard and the tide low ... and spent a morning creating these special forever memories amid a plethora of emotions.

I was further honoured to be with Rex and his mom when he gained his angel wings a week later ...

ALWAYS AND FOREVER SHOOTS are very close to my heart and everything about them is different. They carry with them layers of emotions that have to be navigated in both the planning and carrying out of the shoot.

This shoot was sooo special as I've known this amazing young lady and her family since she was tiny ...
I work both with and without flash to create different ambiances and to cover in situations where the light is unpredictable. And here I was asked to use the flash to create the feel of studio lighting :)
It was also so special to have the grandparents share in this special day...

This was one of my favourite matric dance photoshoots in 2025. Two besties and their families celebrating the end of their school careers, photos in the house and then down to the nearby park for some outdoors family photos ... what started out as a carefully orchestrated hour shoot ended up being over two hours due to an unforeseen mishap that they managed to get resolved with just enough time for everyone to get to the "pre" party :)

There's never a dull moment in the life of a photographer where thinking on your feet is a prerequisite skill :)

There are those shoots that leave your heart overflowing ... and yesterday's was one of them.

Pathfinders is a heartwarming project in the Cape Flats that empowers and inspires teenage girls of all ages, run by Cbdhelpinghands. I met Charlene who runs the project three years ago, and was so blown away by her that I offered to photograph their soon to be Gala Graduation Event, which has now become an integral part of my annual calendar.

Yesterday's event was exceptional. Beautifully and thoughtfully curated, fabulous entertainment and a group of incredible young ladies and their team leaders just having fun!

Three hours flew, and if not for my lift leaving, I probably would have stayed even longer ;) The ladies who mentor these young ladies, and the girls themselves have crept deep into my heart.

My gratitude to The Angel Network - Western Cape. for this introduction ... they too do incredibly work, supporting and uplifting so many.
