If ever there was a species that understood โ€œI am because we areโ€, it is the African wild dog. They hunt together, raise their pups together, care for the sick and injured, and make sure everyone gets a share of the food. even the least successful hunter eats.
Unlike domestic dogs that have five toes on their front feet, African wild dogs only have four toes on each foot!

On Thursday I had the pleasure of photographing the second annual Agri-Expo ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ž ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ๐ฌ, honouring the finest artisanal talent our country has to offer. And what a wonderfully gesellig occasion it was.

The awards brought together people who make preserves, jams, chutneys, marmalades and pickles with something that goes far beyond simply following a recipe. There is time, care and love in every jar, and in some cases, recipes that have travelled through generations of families.

There were 113 SA Champions, 13 Category Winners and the ultimate crown, Product of the Year. There were so many new and interesting preserves to try, that I have a feeling quite a few of them may be finding their way into Christmas stockings this year! ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿซ™

A truly wonderful afternoon, celebrating the people who keep the wonderful tradition of preserving alive.

As someone who's not really a chutney eater, I still have two bottles of Mrs Ball's in my pantry for the odd occasion I make bobotie. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It made me think. I'm sure there aren't many South African homes without a bottle or two tucked away on a kitchen shelf somewhere.
A R200 million investment has breathed new life into Tiger Brands' historic Paarl factory. Mrs Ball's will continue to be made from the same treasured century old recipe, but is now proudly being produced in the Western Cape once again. Locally sourced onions and vinegar, together with the Cape's wonderful fruit, go into producing not only Mrs Ball's Chutney, but also jams and marmalades. Hundreds of jobs have been created in the process.

It's easy to see why Premier Alan Winde was smiling when he officially opened the factory in Paarl on Monday. Andrew Gorman๐Ÿ“ธ
