"If pictures could talk"
This was the one day I was wondering whether lions would wear glasses if they could, and I was glad we were in a car...we found this beast at the Polentswa water hole just as a a dust storm hit us from behind and the lion from the front. It was drinking water, and the wind blew every hair as if it wanted to remove it from the lions face.

Dust was on the order of the moment - and this guy just weathered it - still listening, smelling, and talking to some of its kind somewhere we still did not knew about.

I learned on this day from watching this - never mind the circumstances, the focus stays the same - no storm or uneasy obstacle should influence what is important to you. Storms are normal and part of the package - just handle it and stay focused.

A legitimate playground for 4x4 enthusiasts, the Atlantis dunes - from a higher perspective on a morning microlight flight.

It reminds me how we as human mortals many times need reminding that our immediate circumstances may be very claustrophobic if we fail to orientate ourselves to a bigger picture and perspective regarding our own lives.

Visarend

Bird Photography sensitizes one for another world within our world and one that lots of people never seems to realize. It asks one to start concentrate on a level about 10-30 meters above oneself. There is so much going on!

Behind me was an electrical fence which did not let me further back for another perspective of this windmill, with Table Mountain on the horizon at a lovely sunset evening over Cape Town. And when I forgot about the electrical fence, I got a wake up shock that stays with me from then on forever! :-)

Late winters evening from the escarpment on a working Guest farm, Blesfontein, looking down into the so-called Tankwa Karoo.

Deep down into this photo, the Gannaga Pass leads vehicles up and on to a road that would bring one to Blesfontein, not far from the town Sutherland, which stands to be called the coldest town in South Africa.

One can manipulate via photographic technique a picture to accentuate some focal points - like in this photo. It helps to soften the noise that would distract from what we want to see.

It is also possible to do that within our brains - sometimes life become so busy, that we have problems to concentrate on what is important for the moment - slow down, get calm, refocus, rename - but that is n discipline that takes more than some photographic technique - and sometimes we need help with that. There are people who specialize in this type of help, and we ought not to be too shy to make use of that help.

What is your take on it?

If you have "Spider Angst", this one can stop you in your tracks. But according to those who know, the Golden Orb Spider is harmless and actually a gentle specimen in your environment to help control pests.

More knowledge about a seemingly dangerous thing can in the end change one's mind.

But just to make sure - I took this photo with a telephoto lens with a somewhat longer reach...:-)

I became aware of this spider after I walked underneath it for several times without noticing it. Only after a local ranger went to show me, I saw it for the first time.

I immediately noticed the lovely evening light that gave the warmth of the background - so I made sure to be there on time and worked a bit on the best way to get the picture of both the spider as well as the web and the surrounding sunny colors.

Another lesson - these guys are not always in the same place and forever - they move, or they just disappear - therefore - take the picture before that happens!

Putting the body through its paces.

"A healthy body houses a healthy mind" they say.
They are probably right! Within your means, take charge and look after your body.
