Daryl Glass - Photographer I am a Cape Town based photographer specialising in portrait photography, wedding photography, commercial photography, and underwater photography.

I’ve been involved in photography in some way or another for many years. First directing shoots as a designer in the advertising industry and now as a professional photographer with an eye for design, composition and layout. I’ve always been fascinated by the camera and the magic some people are able to capture with it. I thought it about time to try make some magic of my own. I attended Jeppe Hig

h School for Boys in Johannesburg after which I studied graphic design at the Vaal Triangle Technikon (East Rand Campus). I worked as a graphic designer at various boutique agencies in Johannesburg until 2003 and then made Cape Town my home. From 2005 I was head designer at Power of 9, a branding agency based in Cape Town and since August 2013 have been freelancing as a photographer and designer. Meet Vivian. She is the owner of a luxury bedding and soft furnishings brand Vivano in Lagos, Nigeria. This low key portrait was taken on assignment for Sage. From this humble workshop based at her home, Vivian and her team manufacture and supply many luxury hotels in Nigeria with their amazing products. It was a bit tricky setting up for this shot ... the space was tiny, hot and dark. I used three lights here ... can you guess where?

Well it’s not raining yet!
I recently took Dakota for a quick bodyboard before the weather turned. Blouberg was still warm and sunny but heavy weather had settled in over the CBD in the distance which created interesting light. I love the contrast, it’s almost surreal.

Another shot of stunning Juliet from a test series with trying out some low key mixed lighting with off camera flash and natural light. I absolutely love shooting with my 85mm... it’s ridiculously sharp and the bokeh is gorgeous. However It does get tricky when wide open at F1.4.

I got together with to chat about lighting and show him some of my location setups. Aaron is an award winning environmental photo journalist and wants to use some new creative lighting techniques in his future projects. I’m really looking forward to seeing the results. Lagos ... what an experience. Jam packed with hustle, energy and noise. I loved the people. Welcoming and positive - I don’t think the word “can’t” exists here. I disliked the filth and traffic, although the constant smog does makes golden hour last a lot longer 😜 I wish you guys could see this image at full resolution. The detail! Better still visit this African giant and see it for yourself.
