Been thinking a lot about plagiarism lately.

A few of my posts recently went viral like my “6 Non-Negotiables for a Photoshoot” and I discovered something that honestly didn’t sit well with me: some photographers copied it word-for-word.

Look, being inspired is one thing. But my non-negotiables? They come from over a decade of experience photographing real clients. You can’t just swipe that and call it yours. That’s not how you stand out. That’s not how you build a brand.

Let’s be honest, the photography market is saturated. Everyone has a camera. Everyone has Instagram. But good photos aren’t enough anymore. You also need:

✦ A personality that clients want to be around
✦ A style that’s unmistakably yours
✦ A reputation built on originality, not copy-paste

If you’re stealing someone else’s work, how will anyone ever know what makes you different?

⭑.ᐟ For all photographers starting out: Find your style. Be yourself. Experiment. Screw up. Learn. Your clients will notice and that’s what keeps them coming back.

Originality is your currency. Don’t devalue it and don’t devalue mine.

I honestly don’t even have the words for how special this session was.

Everything just showed up for us. The light, the air, the calm… it felt like nature was on its absolute best behaviour for this beautiful trio.

The beach is hands down the top choice for my overseas families, most of them book after seeing another shoot I’ve done here. And listen, I can’t promise what kind of weather Cape Town will decide to give us on the day… but when it does this? There’s just no beating this backdrop.

To put it simply - a photoshoot is just an epic way to spend an hour fully-engaged with your family. No phones. No work....

Thinking about an Extended Family Session? (Read this post!)
Here’s how I run them to make the whole experience feel easy and meaningful (save this 🤍)

✧.* Before we even meet, I make sure I know everyone’s names, ages, and how you’re all connected. Whether there are 8 of you or 25, I will know your names. A photoshoot is personal and I want you to feel seen.

✧.* I always start with the big group shots. It settles the nerves and takes away that initial awkwardness because everyone’s in it together. It also gives me a quick read on the dynamics - who’s the cheeky one, who’s the natural leader, and who might need a little gentle coaxing.

✧.* From there, I break you up into your smaller family units so each family gets their own dedicated time and space. No one feels rushed. No one feels forgotten.

✧.* I’ll guide you with simple prompts and gentle prop ideas (nothing stiff or overly styled), but I love it when families take an idea and run with it…sometimes literally. The best moments often happen in between the “posed” ones.

✧.* My energy is bubbly, warm, and encouraging. That’s intentional. It breaks down walls quickly, wins the kids over, and helps even the most reluctant adults relax. My goal isn’t just beautiful photos, it’s that you leave feeling like you’ve genuinely connected. Like you’ve just spent quality time together and your social cups are full.

This is important ⤵️

Kids don’t arrive to a session as blank slates. They arrive tired, curious, overwhelmed, shy, excited - sometimes all of it at once. I don’t see that as something to “fix”.

My job isn’t to jump in the second a moment presents itself or to push a child to give me something they’re not ready to give. My job is to slow down, to wait, and to pay attention.

A lot of the time, the moments that end up being cherished years from now aren’t always the big smiles and poses, but the smaller ones where there was give and take, a leaning in, and the briefest second when a child forgets about the camera and just ‘is’.

This is one of my favourite places to don a camera and chase after gorgeous family moments.
It’s got drama. And also softness.
Golden magic. And the gentle touch of nature.

It’s perfect for kids who can’t stand still and Dads who need space; for Mums who want the kiss of sunshine and babies who love watching the trees move in the breeze.

I could do a 1000 sessions here and they would all be so different, so unique, so special 🤍🌿
