Mr Grumpy woke up as we drove past.

The spotted eagle-owl (Bubo africanus), also known as the African spotted eagle-owl and the African eagle-owl, is a medium-sized species of owl, one of the smallest of the eagle owls. Its length is 45 cm (18 in) and its weight is from 454 to 907 grams

First Bateleur for the Kgalagadi trip, it was a bit far but still a special sighting none the less.

The bateleur (Terathopius ecaudatus), also known as the bateleur eagle, is a medium-sized eagle in the family Accipitridae. It is often considered a relative of the snake eagles and, like them, it is classified within the subfamily Circaetinae.

What an amazing experience seeing the Cape Fox in the Kgalagadi. We were blessed just outside out unit to see the Cape Fox, Willem the local onsite ranger came to call us to see the Fox's So amazing probably my most favorite camp in the Kgalagadi

The only true fox and the smallest canid found in South Africa. The Cape Fox is silver-grey in colour with large pointed ears. They have a dark colouring around the mouth. Adults measure 350 mm at the shoulders and have a weight of 2.5-3 kg. Remarkably agile, especially since the bushy tail serves as a counterbalance when dodging and weaving.

Ground squirrels - what a treat. The Kgalagadi makes you appreciate the small and the big

Ground squirrels are rodents of the squirrel family (Sciuridae) that generally live on the ground or in burrows, rather than in trees like the tree squirrels. The term is most often used for the medium-sized ground squirrels, as the larger ones are more commonly known as marmots (genus Marmota) or prairie dogs, while the smaller and less bushy-tailed ground squirrels tend to be known as chipmunks (genus Tamias).

First sighting in the Kgalagadi ,Owls has always facinated me.......but wait so many owls stories to come.

The Spotted Eagle Owl (Bubo africanus) is the most widely distributed owl in Southern Africa and can be found across the entire region. From forest to savanna to desert, and even in suburbia, it’s all good owl habitat to the Spotted Eagle Owl.

Had the pleasure of visiting Kalahari Trails on our way to visit the Kgalagadi.

Kalahari Trails, better known as the Meerkat sanctuary, is home to one of the Kalahari’s best-known animals, suricates. Kalahari Trails Meerkat Sanctuary is 3500ha in size, nestled right in the heart of the red Kalahari dune fields, just 35km before the entrance to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (KTP).
