This might be my favourite image of 2022 - it is very hard to go passed the magnificent Wedge-tailed Eagle. It's also featured in my 2024 Birds of Australia Calendar.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have watched a pair of very determined parents raise & successfully fledge two chicks from such an amazing vantage point.

This is the smallest of the two youngsters whom was the last to leave the nest, only a few days after this shot was taken. When it wasn't busy building it's wing muscles with lots of flapping & small flights from too & from the main branch of its nest tree, it would spend some time preening & removing the last remnants of the white feather 'fluff' of its chick down.

I was thrilled to capture this image as it worked through it's tail feathers, highlighting the feature of the birds name. I love the bright colours of the youngsters plumage, particularly those amazing oranges & browns.
