It’s been 11 weeks since I woke up to the news that Upemba National Park had come under attack. It still breaks my heart thinking about what my friends, colleagues, and everyone in the park had to endure during that time. Shortly after, we launched a fundraising campaign and we’ve now almost reached 50% of our target. Link> https://gofund.me/1deee21cb

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has already contributed. Asking for support is never easy, but I’m here asking once again to help my friends and colleagues in Upemba rebuild and rise stronger than before.

Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of working in Upemba with Carter Kirilenko on a very special film that will be released later this year. During that time, I’ve built friendships and connections with people and places that have become deeply important to me. It’s been devastating to witness so many lives impacted and torn apart by attacks from the Mai-Mai.

Upemba and its people deserve a future stronger than this.

Over the past three years, and I have been working on a film documenting the evolving conservation efforts within Upemba National Park, DRC. While some of these film images can offer a glimpse, they often fall short of capturing the full weight of what we’ve experienced - moments of profound inspiration, but also scenes marked by loss and hardship.

It has been a privilege to witness the park’s transformation firsthand, and we’re honoured to share some of that journey through film. Our aim is to reflect, even in a small way, the extraordinary efforts of the hundreds of individuals working tirelessly to protect this landscape.

These images were taken during our field visits in 2023 and 2024.

Back in March 2023, Volunteer Wildfire Services brought together participants from across the globe for a special 12-day training exchange, dedicated to prescribed burning. WTREX South Africa marked the 7th Women in Fire Training Exchange and proudly stands as the first-ever held outside the United States.

Join us on 20 March when we launch the full documentary online and celebrate the resilience, skill, and passion of women making waves in wildland fire management!

The world has lost a true conservationist 💔 Anna Mussi and I have worked closely together over the past few years, mostly with rhinos in the Greater Kruger. It was only last week that we returned from an ambitious project in the Kalahari - Dehorning is a tool we have right now but not the solution. Anna was determined to do more to stop rhino poaching. I hope to carry her dream forward in some small way... This film is for you Anna 🦏
