Day 4- Survivors

After receiving many orchids as gifts over the past 3 years, never have I managed to keep them alive. I’ve really tried- watered more, watered less, moved them to north facing light, but ultimately they all ended up on the ‘graveyard of orchids’ shelf.

Finally I bought an indoor plant that I’m proud to announce I’ve kept alive 💪 and I’m really grateful for that. It’s about the small things right?!

It’s an American trumpet pitcher, and we learnt the hard way that if you feed it a Christmas beetle - the beetle will eat it’s way out.

Coolest plant I have ever owned.

Day 3 - Unapologetic

Oops... I may have missed day 3. To be honest I was glued to my Nintendo DS and no f***s were
given.

I was grateful that I could take a day off, no expectations, nowhere to be, just me vegging and doing
something I enjoy. Yesterday, I was able to do that with minimal guilt, which is not how I usually feel
when indulging in something that isn't work related.

I usually have so many goals to meet or projects to complete that the raw beauty of enjoying the
moment slips by.

As an artist there is constant pressure to create something embedded with meaning. This leaves me feeling “unworthy” if my images seem to lack substance and rely only on looking pretty.
But yesterday I took a picture that was really, just quite pretty and I’m trying to let go of the guilt of trying to make everything meaningful,
because this one simply made me happy.

Do something that makes you happy today, and do it without guilt. Just be.

Day 1 - Clipped Wings

We may all be in isolation, but around us, in the comfort of our own homes, a million beautiful things are still happening – all we need to do is look for them.

A year ago, 2 Wood Hoopoes made their home in mine, and this year 3 have returned. I get really excited when I see them (how old am I? 🤪). So when I found one of their feathers today, it was a great opportunity to photograph it and remember their presence when they aren’t around. It will remind me of this time when we are once again allowed to fly.

Today I am grateful for the diverse wildlife that we get to see as South Africans, not only in the bush but often right out of our windows ❤
