Spent yesterday filming Sox being Sox.

I followed him around with the Fujifilm X South Africa GFX ETERNA 55 and the new NiSi Optics ZA 65 LF PRIME 16mm.

I’ll be honest… I never shoot this wide. Most of the time 24mm is as wide as I’ll go, so I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did.

This lens is just insane.

The thing that really stood out wasn’t just how wide it is, it just feels really natural. It’s a rectilinear design, which means your straight lines stay straight instead of bending like you’d normally expect from an ultra-wide. Even at roughly a 13mm full-frame equivalent on the ETERNA, it never felt gimmicky or distracting.

What’s also really exciting is that this is currently the only lens in NiSi’s new 65 PRIME Large Format range. From what I’ve heard, this is just the beginning, with more focal lengths on the way. On the ETERNA it’s a perfect match. No vignetting at all it was designed for sensors this size.

One more thing… I almost never shoot black and white, but the ETERNA has somehow got me shooting black and white again, and I’m loving it. There’s no grade on this video at all. It’s straight out of camera using ACROS.

I honestly never thought I’d say this, but this lens has me wanting to shoot wider more often. That’s saying a lot from someone who usually stops at 24mm.

Really looking forward to getting this combo out on a proper shoot.
