A team should look like a team.

The same light.

Cape Town?

I’ve had a slightly dangerous thought. 😂

Over the years, quite a few families I’ve photographed have moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town — and every now and then someone asks when I’m coming to them.

So I’m plotting.

February 2027. One weekend. Cape Town.

I’d create my signature black-background studio in one central location and photograph a small number of families.

No gardens. No family homes.

The same portraits I make in Johannesburg — just in Cape Town.

Nothing to book yet. I’m simply seeing who’s out there.

Families move. Time moves. The photographs remain.

Then. Now. Together.

You hold them differently when they are little.
Then, somehow, they begin standing beside you.

Years pass.
Children become adults.
And sometimes, across photographs made years apart, you find something that hasn’t changed at all.

A laugh.
A look.
The way two people find one another.

Some things time doesn’t take.

The new portrait doesn’t replace the old one.

It adds to it.

Different ages.
Different moments.
The same family.

There is room on the wall for all of them.

Because the photographs we made years ago don’t become less important when we make new ones.

Time has added another layer.

Then. Now. Together.

Then. Now. Together.

I first photographed Ni and Sho when they were little.

Wrapped around each other.
Giggling together.
Growing up in the same family.

Years later, after their family had emigrated, they came back to my studio.

I knew what I had captured then.
Time has added another layer.

The new portrait doesn't replace the old one.
It adds to it.

Perhaps that is what I love most about photographing people more than once.

There is more to hold on to.
And that makes my heart sing.

Women don’t need a month to matter.

August is Women’s Month in South Africa.
I used to mark it.
These days, I’m not so sure.

But this week it made me go looking.
Through old photographs.
Through portraits of women I have made over many years.
And then I found something I had almost forgotten.

Their words.

A few years ago, for a project called Luminance, I photographed women over 40 and asked them questions about their lives.

I asked what inspired them.
What they thought about getting older.

They wrote about kindness.
Family.
Freedom.
Curiosity.
Being comfortable in their own skin.
And caring less about what other people expected of them.

Women don’t need a month to matter.

I think they already knew that.

What Carried Me Here.

For most of my life I never thought much about my body.

I thought about the next portrait.

The next flight.

Whether the light would still be there when I arrived.

Curiosity kept saying, "Let's go."

My body quietly replied, "Alright."

Over the past few months I've found myself looking back at the life that quietly happened because it simply kept saying yes.

A strong professional portrait is not only about the individual.

When a team is photographed with consistency, intention, and presence, something larger begins to emerge.

Clarity.
Trust.
Professionalism.
Cohesion.

Each person remains recognisably themselves, yet together they present a unified visual identity.

In a world where first impressions are often made online, photographs are as important as words.

Professional portraits are not simply about how people look.

They are about how an organisation is perceived.

Before I was a photographer, I was your mother.

Before I understood light, or timing, or presence —
I understood you.

Everything I do now comes from that place.

Not the camera.
Not the work.

But the knowing that these moments don’t stay.

And that one day, a photograph may be all that holds them.

This is My Why.
