Cage diving and chumming are often misunderstood. While there are valid concerns and ongoing scientific debate, the current body of research has not shown that properly regulated cage diving operations make sharks more dangerous to humans.

Important caveats
That doesn’t mean every operation is perfect. Poorly managed activities can have impacts, such as:

* Allowing sharks to repeatedly feed from boats.
* Operating too close to popular swimming beaches.
* Failing to follow permit conditions.
