The helmeted guineafowl is a ground bird with a large, round body and a disproportionately small head. The small, bone-like 'helmet' looks strangely like a cashew nut protruding from the crown and is a readily apparent feature that aids identification. The face is blue and red with wattles while the legs are black. The body is also black but with hundreds of small water spots and flecks.

Baby Chacma Baboon

A baby baboon is born with an instinct to grasp tightly with both hands and feet.

They need this ability to cling to their mothers chest as she makes her way through trees or brush.

The female will be pregnant for 6 months and give birth to one, very rarely two, youngsters.

A baby baboon is called an infant and is helpless at birth.

The eyes are open however, and the infant is well furred.

The newborn baboon also has the typical young primates ingrained gripping reflex, and is able to hold itself against its mother's belly with tightly grasping hands and feet almost immediately after birth.

Infants ride against the mother's stomach or chest for the first several weeks, and then begin to ride on her back, usually in an upright position like a little jockey.

Baboon babies are extremely intelligent, alert and curious.

The Bateleur eagle is the most famous of the snake eagles. Bateleur is French for 'tightrope-walker'. This name was probably chosen because of its distinctive aerial acrobatics.

Under the watchful eye of mother, young elephants are free to do as they please, and they often give us a wonderful show. Young elephants still in the developing stage are very curious about the world and we always enjoy the way they interact with nature and each other. Young elephants under the age of three are still very dependent on their relatives. Young elephants are often found mimicking their elders and this is how they learn and build their own personalities’ overtime. The young are also very playful and won’t hesitate to charge the vehicle.

White rhinos are the second-largest land mammal and their name comes from the Afrikaan’s, a West Germanic language, word “weit” which means wide and refers to the animal’s mouth. Also known as the square-lipped rhinoceros, white rhinos have a square upper lip with almost no hair. Two genetically different subspecies exist the northern and southern white rhino, and are found in two different regions in Africa. As of March 2018, there are only two rhinos of the northern white rhino left, both of which are female. They live in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and are protected round-the-clock by armed guards. Their near extinction is due to decades of rampant poaching for rhino horn.

The African fish eagle is a large species of eagle found throughout sub-Saharan Africa near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply. It may resemble the Bald eagle in appearance; though related, each species occurs on different continents, with the Bald eagle being resident in North America. The distinctive cry of the African fish eagle is, for many, evocative of the spirit or essence of Africa.

A small, stunning bird, the malachite kingfisher has brilliant blue wings, a bright orange breast, a red bill and a black and white crest on the crown of the head. There are also flashes of white under the base of the bill and on the back of the neck.
An aquatic kingfisher, the diet consists mostly of fish and amphibians. The typical hunting technique is to take a low perch before diving off and into the top layers of water. If successful in capturing a larger fish, the malachite kingfisher will take it to a large branch or rock and beat the fish against it to break its bones, before swallowing whole. Breeding pairs excavate tunnels in sandy embankments over water for nesting, with a low entrance and an upward incline before the nesting chamber is reached. This is lined with fish bones and disgorged pellets of food, and the female lays between 3 and 6 eggs here. The malachite kingfisher is resident in Kruger

This one was sitting at Lake panic with some spiderwebs catching the morning sun.

Large, mostly white stork with a distinctive yellow bill and bright red facial skin. It is more tied to wetland habitats than most other storks, and it forages with its bill partially submerged and open, stirring up prey in muddy pools with its feet. When it encounters prey it snaps its bill closed.
