In a lion’s unblinking stare one can find reflection: that in struggle lies becoming, that freedom is not found in the avoidance of pain but in the courageous acceptance of it, and to act with the purity of purpose. September 2024. KNP, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

The last remaining Monwana male. Thornybush Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa. February 2024.
This guy is one exceptional lion. Inspite of suffering a serious injury to his back left leg some 3 years ago (resulting in severe muscle atrophy and leaving him to hobble along), toghether with a younger half-brother, he manages to survive against all the odds. His back left leg is literally skin and bone, yet the pair of nomads manage to take down big game all on their own - including giraffe.
