C4 Photo Safaris

C4 Photo Safaris Want to take better wildlife and nature photos? We provide specialist photographic safaris and photo workshops for the nature and photography enthusiast

C4 Images and Safaris is the inspiration of two award winning wildlife photographers, André Cloete and Shem Compion. Both are wildlife photographers who have an inherent love for nature and travel. From there it was easy -
they started C4 Images and Safaris to share the best wildlife and nature photography destinations with you. Our goal is simple: To get you into the best wildlife locations In th

e best season with the best photo guides So you can take the best photos. It's as simple as that. And this is exactly what we do. Since 2004 we have taken our clients all over the African continent and the world to expertly photograph wildlife and nature. By providing you with only the best service we have become the largest specialist photographic tour operator in Africa. Background

With an extensive travel background as well as academic qualifications in Nature conservation and wildlife management the C4 Images and Safaris team plans the logistics and operations of every tour very carefully. We will only travel to destinations when the wildlife is at its optimum, ensuring you get to see the best wildlife possible. We plan your travel requirements in lieu of your heavy camera bags by booking extra seats on planes or organising a land transfer for cargo luggage. We make sure there are only 3 photographers per vehicle so that you have more than enough space for your equipment

Local flavour

We are a photographic safari company run by wildlife photographers for photographers. All our photographers have vast experience of the ecosystems they travel to. Your benefit is that you are guided by a professional wildlife photographer who knows the movements of the animals, the state of the ecosystem and where the best sightings are likely to be. It gives us great pride to use specific photographers who can share the local knowledge and experience of the beautiful areas you travel to. We currently operate in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Madagascar, and Japan and pride ourselves on providing a specialised, personal service to all our clients. Our main aim is to have our clients returning back to us for many years - ensuring we all have the pleasure of seeing the many wonders of the world's wildlife.jpge fact that many of our clients prefer small and customised tours, of whom 70% are repeat guests, gives an indication of the service we provide. We are fully insured by SATIB.jpgis covers all your travels in Africa and beyond, so you can travel at ease when booking with us. Our goal is quite simple. To provide you, the photographic client, with the best photo safari money can buy. We are a photographic safari company run by wildlife photographers for photographers. Innovating to lead

One of our major goals is to be the clear leader in the specialised photographic safari industry. We do this by constantly producing new concepts, ideas and destinations in the industry. Not content with only running photo safaris, we conceptualised what wildlife photographers would want in Africa. We arranged an exclusive concession in a large private reserve called Mashatu where we installed specially dedicated photographic hides.jpge highlight of these is the underground elephant hide - where you can watch elephants (amongst a myriad of other animals) drinking from a water hole 1 meter from you- et eye level.jpgis already set us apart for the rest, but not content with that we arranged for one of the worlds legendary photography wildlife photographers, Art Wolfe to present a series of seminars and photo workshops in South Africa.jpge first time ever that such a highly respected photographer has run workshops in South Africa. With the success of this project C4 now has its sights on new and larger events in the future. We innovate not to separate us from the rest, but to lead the market and provide you with the best wildlife experience out. Expect more to come. Benefiting the client

We work very hard to find destinations that offer the best for your photography: Open vehicles with beanbags and brackets, excellent wildlife in the best seasons, small groups and lodges who understand our needs are all what make our photo trips a success. To ensure your photographic freedom, we use specific locations and lodges who accommodate these needs. It has resulted in some special relationships and even better, special deals for you, the client. I invite you to either select a photo safari from one of our scheduled itineraries - classic or premier - or approach us for a personalised Safari. Each of our guides has their own specific speciality that will aid your decision. We will happily design a custom safari to suit your budget and your time constraints so that you can make that photographic dream a reality of excellent images.

Time spent with lions is often about patience.

Watching behaviour unfold slowly, noticing the interactions within the pride, and waiting for small moments that tell a larger story.

Namibia changes when seen from above.

From the curves of ancient dunes to dry river systems and isolated mountain ranges, the scale of the landscape becomes difficult to fully comprehend from the ground.

This aerial perspective reveals just how much space, texture, and contrast define this part of southern Africa.

Some reserves are known for wildlife density. Others for scenery. Mashatu quietly delivers both.

Open terrain, diverse habitats, eye-level hide photography, and some of the best leopard visibility in Africa make this one of the continent’s great photographic destinations.

Our latest video takes you into the landscapes and moments that make Mashatu so special to photograph.

Some journeys stay with people long after they return home.

From the forests of Uganda to the coast and wild landscapes of Mozambique, these safaris were shaped by strong guiding, thoughtful planning, and time spent properly immersed in each place.

You enjoyed the last photo review video, so we thought we’d do another one.

If you have a wildlife image you’d like Danielle Carstens to review, DM us a high-resolution JPEG and, if you’re comfortable sharing it, the RAW file as well. She’ll select a few photographs to discuss in the next video.

Predators, hides, and time spent working a sighting properly.

This safari combines the open bushveld of Timbavati with the specialised photographic hides of Mashatu, creating a focused experience for photographers wanting to spend meaningful time with wildlife behaviour and low-angle photography.

Led by Darren Donovan and limited to just six guests, the safari is designed around flexibility in the field, extended sightings, and strong photographic opportunities with leopard, lion, elephants, and general game.

The overnight Lala Limpopo Sleep-Out Hide and underground Matebole Hide add a completely different perspective to the experience — allowing wildlife to approach naturally, often at eye level.

Gorongosa is more than a national park.

It is a story of restoration — of wildlife returning, communities being supported, and a landscape rebuilding itself after decades of conflict.

In this video, Shem Compion shares insight into one of Africa’s most remarkable conservation recoveries.

Mashatu is a place that rewards time.

Time spent with elephants moving through dry riverbeds. Time at hides waiting for wildlife to approach naturally. Time working a sighting properly rather than moving on too quickly.

Led by Darren Donovan and limited to just four guests, this safari is designed around a slower, more considered photographic approach in one of Africa’s most productive wildlife destinations.

From the underground Matebole Hide to open plains, sandstone outcrops, and the predator-rich Majale river systems, Mashatu offers remarkable variety for photographers interested in behaviour, composition, and atmosphere.
