You can’t stand out if you look like everyone else.

Water is water—until you build a brand.

Then it’s Evian, Valpré, Voss.

Same with you.

If all you’re offering is your qualification ( CA(SA) ),

you’re in a price war.

And in price wars?

The cheapest wins.

Unless...

You build a story.

A presence.

A point of view.

Then you stop competing.

You start attracting.

That’s brand.

Sometimes the most strategic move is 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿.
Yes — you could figure it all out.

Or... you could hire someone who already has.
Expert help isn’t weakness. It’s a shortcut.

Because watching your LinkedIn, TikTok, and Facebook collect dust isn’t growth...
it’s stagnation.

Today might be the day to ask:

Then call them.

Your brand is not your LinkedIn bio.

It’s what people feel when they think about you.

That’s the difference between being known and being ignored.

Marty Neumeier calls it a gut feeling.

Alex Hormozi says it’s what people associate you with.

Jeff Bezos? “What they say when you’re not in the room.”

So ask yourself:

01. What do people feel when your name pops up?

02. What do they say when you’re not there?

If you don’t like the answers?

Fix it.

Your brand is already being built.

Whether you like it or not

Most people lose trust over tone.

Not what they say,

but 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱.

You send a text.

They misinterpret it.

They send a voice note.

You hear it wrong.

Communication is layered.

Text = tone is guessed

Voice = tone is heard

Video = tone is seen

𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁?

There’s a wedding happening later today,

You urgently need to get to a hairdresser now...

So you do a google search and you find:

A. Joe with two 5-star reviews.

B. Steve with 230 reviews and a 4.2 average.

Which one do you trust?

Seems obvious to go with the one with the higher total number of reviews, right?

𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗦 = 𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦

Sorry, Nobody reads your brochure.

BUT everyone reads a review.

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 : 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆:

1. Call your last 5 happiest clients.

2. Ask them to write a short review.

3. Post it, everywhere.

Imagine getting these (genuine) reviews as a Photographer:

That’s not a theory.

If you don’t differentiate, you’ll be discounted.

They lied to us: Your qualifcation isn’t enough.

Ouch.

If you look, you can find 10 more just like you on LinkedIn.

Cheaper. Faster. Maybe Offshore?

So... why you?

If all you bring is a qualification and a LinkedIn badge—

you’re in a race to the bottom.

The only way to win?

BE ONE OF ONE.

That’s where personal branding comes in.

It’s not a “nice to have.”

It’s your only defense against being commoditized.

Show your story.

Share your values.

Talk about your journey, your community work, your past, your hustle.

You become human.

You become relatable.

And when people feel like they know you?

They choose you.

Not just any person with these skills.

CA(SA) or entrepreneurship?

Here’s the truth:

Being a CA trains you to be cautious.

Auditing teaches prudence.

That’s great for corporate.

Not always great for building a business.

If you’re risk-averse, entrepreneurship will stretch you.

But CA(SA) gives you a baseline:

01 You understand money

02 You see systems

03 You know structure

That’s powerful.

Just know:

Corporate gives you a ceiling.

Entrepreneurship gives you none.

You could earn nothing—or scale endlessly.

It all depends on your appetite.

Choose wisely.

You can’t control everything.

Sorry. Eish.

But you can control this:

Ask yourself: "Did I do my 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 today?"

Not your excuses.

Not the market.

Just effort.

If you can say honestly, “I did what I could”,

then you can sleep well.

But if you didn’t?

If you know you messed around,

didn’t commit,

didn’t try...

You’ll feel it.

That quiet guilt you carry when no one’s watching?

It’s not about perfection.

It’s about effort.

Give your best.

Or stop expecting peace.

May you receive grace if you've dropped the ball.

And may you receive strength to carry on with the good (hard) work!

Unless you are living under a sound-proof rock,

you will know how unsettled things are in ZA 🇿🇦.

Here's some advice from Alan Knott-Craig:

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.

Leadership shines brightest when things get dark.

In 2008, South Africa faced load shedding for the first time.

Fear spread fast.

Alan sent an email to his team, and wrote, “Don’t panic.” This was not South Africa's first struggle.

He reminded them of past challenges that We had overcome before.

He suggested we all buy Ricoffy instead of Nescafe (LOL!).

It was a small change. But it brought comfort.

That email went viral.

It connected with many.

Media picked it up.

Suddenly, he was more than just a name resembling his father's name.

This moment changed his public image.

Here’s what I learned, that I think is applicable to us now in 2025:

🟢 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.

Be the calm in the storm. Offer reassurance.

🟢 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀.

Remind people they have faced tough times before.

🟢 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Sometimes, comfort comes from simple solutions.

🟢 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Turn crises into opportunities for connection.

🟢 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲.

Speak up when others are scared.

🟢 𝗕𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Change takes time. Allow people to adjust.

In tough times, leadership is about guiding others.

Stay calm. Share hope.

Your words can spark change.
