“She Who Returns” 1/1 2026
Multiple Polaroid Emulsion Lift on Fabriano paper
870x670

- Available from until 30 June 2026

Created from black and white medium format film and transformed into Polaroid lifts, this artwork exists as a completely one of a kind piece. The colours seen within each image come directly from the Polaroid emulsion itself — no digital manipulation or additional alterations have been made.

Each individual Polaroid lift is delicately guided through water and carefully transferred by hand onto Fabriano paper, allowing the emulsion to fold, stretch, and settle organically in its own way. Made up of 36 Polaroid lifts, the final work carries the unpredictability and fragility of the process within every fragment.

Each square was intentionally manipulated and positioned to flow into the next, creating its own rhythm, movement, and energy throughout the piece. The artwork becomes a conversation between fragments — each image holding its own presence while simultaneously forming part of a larger whole.

No two lifts can ever be recreated the same, making this piece entirely unique and impossible to replicate.

Polaroid Emulsion Lift Workshop 🖌️✨

Date: Sunday, 8 March 2026
Time: 09:00-12:00
Cost: R1200 pp
Place: Somerset West

Bookings: [email protected]

Join us for a hands-on exploration of Polaroid emulsion lifting — a beautiful, tactile process where the delicate image layer of a Polaroid print is gently released from its backing and transferred onto a new surface, such as watercolour paper.

Each lift results in a dreamy, textured image, full of organic movement and subtle imperfections. No two pieces are ever the same, making every work completely one-of-a-kind.

During the workshop, you will create five individual emulsion lifts. You also have the option to experiment further by creating multiple lifts from a single image, dividing it into 2 or 4 sections — much like assembling a visual puzzle. Please note that you only receive 5 Polaroids within the workshop cost. You decide what you want to do!

Additional Polaroids can be created during the workshop for R100 per Polaroid. You’re welcome to take these home, or continue working on them during the 3-hour workshop, time permitting.

What to prepare:
Please arrive with 2-5 images (black & white and/or colour) saved on your phone. These will be printed at the start of the workshop using the Polaroid Lab.
• Bright images tend to work best
• Creative experimentation is encouraged
• Please note: all images will be cropped to a square format

Come ready to slow down, play, and embrace the beauty of the process.

Commissioned work - Polaroid Emulsion Lift

Three bodies held by water, first captured on medium format black & white HP5 400 film, then gently carried into colour through the Polaroid process.

In the emulsion lift, water becomes a quiet collaborator — guiding each image onto 36 individually handmade tiles, made by a renowned potter in Onrus. Each tile receives the image differently, like a slow unfolding.

The work was completed and signed during an intimate private lunch, shared with the client and his guests — a moment of presence and pause.

A reflection on fluidity, patience, and grace.

Bespoke commissions are welcomed, drawn from archival works or client-held images, realised on paper or as tile installations.

Swipe to see progress work and the final piece in its new home 💛

Three generations photographed on large format 4x5 ✨
Oh, how I love photographing these empowering sessions. Film creates a quieter, more intentional space, making it easier to settle into yourself and breathe in front of the lens.

For the love of large format 4x5! ✨🌙
Add this to any session package to make your experience that much richer. There’s something so magical about being photographed on 4x5 as if we’re living in 1950!

Thank you .erasmus_ for being the wild woman you are ✨🌙

Goodbye 2025! This year has taught me to slow down, rethink things when sh*t doesn’t go to plan and all the good things in between. I suppose you can say it all works out for the better.
I have learnt to slow down, that failing is not a bad thing, and to trust my intuition that much more.
From new clients to new workshops, collaborations and beautiful commissions and exhibitions - to failing at new ideas or projects that just didn’t work - this year has been a year! I think everyone can see the good in this year and what it has brought us, but we cannot deny the struggles we have all faced this year.

To kick off the new year here are a few fun facts you might not know about me:

- My partner (drummer) and I, jam in a band together (check out slide 20 - with Jude on my back) we love doing things as a family. I gave Jude a point and shoot and show him how to load it (slide 19)
- I launched my mamma adventure in July of 2025! This has been great meeting others at markets and forming new relationships. I believe children need to wear the best materials, and love supporting local makers
- has been my client for the past 4 and a bit years, yes this is true incase you didn’t know. They outsource all their B&W film developing to me
- If I’m in the darkroom, you will always hear me blast the music.
- I opened Lady and Co in 2021
- I have been developing film and Handprinting for 12 years. The first few years are really trial and error and seeing what you love and what works for you.

Thank you to all of you for helping me keep this alive! I could not do any of this without the support!
See you in 2026 💛✨
