This is my second time in just a few weeks passing through Uniondale, and I've realised it's become tradition to stop at the diner for the same sandwich every single time.

Not just any sandwich... a biltong and cheese sammie on good old-fashioned white bread.

For me, it's the perfect way to start a long drive into the unknown. And before anyone asks... no, it's not on artisan sourdough. This is the real deal, exactly as it should be.

If you ever find yourself passing through Uniondale, I can highly recommend making the stop.

An empty sign on a beautiful old building with the most charming bay window? I can't help but imagine an MT Studios logo hanging there instead.

A girl can dream... and if you know me, you know I've probably already renovated the whole place in my head.

Sometimes life feels a little like a broken window. A few cracks, a few missing pieces, and the weather finds its way in.

But even then, you keep your head down, keep doing the work and trust that the light still finds a way through. The hard seasons don't last forever, but what they build in us often does.

As part of my Karoo expedition, I spent a lot of time photographing churches and town halls. I was completely blown away by the architecture, the craftsmanship and the incredible attention to detail that has stood the test of time.

It left me with a deep appreciation for the rich history woven into these remarkable buildings and the communities that have cared for them over generations.

I've realised that weathered textures and old architecture have quietly become some of my favourite things to photograph. There's something about the layers, imperfections and stories they hold that I just can't resist.

Hopefully I've now moved on from my grass, moss and mist era... but I'm not making any promises.

Ok, so this is my new thing ...

Instead of standing outside old buildings imagining how I'd renovate them into the perfect MT Studios space, I've started doing it with AI.

Suddenly every old shed becomes a beautiful creative studio waiting for its next chapter.

I'm not saying I'm studio space hunting... but I'm also not not studio space hunting.

I grew up in a suburb of Cape Town filled with 60s and 70s architecture. It was very much the That '70s Show era, where a set of three flying geese on the wall and a sleeping Mexican figurine beside the house number were considered the height of home décor.

Maybe that's why I've always been drawn to older architecture. There's something about buildings with history, craftsmanship and character that stops me in my tracks. Wandering through South Africa's older settler towns reminds me that every street has a story to tell, and every building carries a little piece of the past.

It's a kind of beauty I've come to appreciate more and more with every place I visit.

Graaff-Reinet completely blew me away. I arrived expecting beautiful Karoo landscapes, but discovered a town with a thriving design culture, excellent coffee and so much creative energy.

It was completely unexpected and incredibly rewarding to experience. Some places have a way of surprising you in the very best way.

Earlier this week, while photographing my way through the Karoo, I found myself wandering through a few old graveyards. It probably comes as no surprise that a trip like that also came with a few ghost stories.

After checking with the locals in Uniondale, it's apparently official that the famous bride ghost has finally moved on after her husband passed away. One less ghost to keep an eye out for.

The others, however, seem to be doing just fine. While visiting the museum in Somerset East (KwaNojoli), all four of us in the room suddenly stopped mid-conversation as the temperature dropped in an instant. It felt like something straight out of a movie. Needless to say, I was the first one heading for the door. I don't tango with ghosts.

Ghosts aside, I've always been drawn to the craftsmanship of old cemeteries. The weathered stonework, hand-carved lettering and the stories quietly etched into every tombstone have a beauty all of their own.

This picture feels like a small celebration.
Another week of winter school holidays done and dusted.

Don’t get me wrong — winter and holidays are two of my favourite things. But when you’re not the one actually on holiday, it can get a little… creative. Deadlines still exist, emails still need answering, and small humans still have a lot of energy to burn.

Luckily, I have the most fantastic network of mom friends who are in the same boat. We ninja together playdates, tag-team childcare, and quietly understand when one of us is on deadline and needs a bit of backup. No drama, just solidarity and a shared sense of humour.

It’s one of those understated luxuries of living in a small town — community that shows up, makes a plan, and gets you through the week. And honestly, that deserves a moment of appreciation.
