I am

Gaylene, I am a photographer, a good one. This art is a never ending learning process and I love to find new ways to take better photos. Every photographic session is new challenge, a new opportunity to find magic in that moment I am in. I revel in making someone smile, catching a carefree laugh in my frame and knowing that in 5, 10 or 20 years time someone will look at this photo in fondness and love. Creating sweet memories, priceless glimpses into the past is part of this job and those who do it well do so because they allow themselves to feel and connect with the people and things in their frame. Every family I meet, every couple I share a wedding with, every single person has a story and my goal is to encapsulate that version of them, their essence, the soul behind the human, wild and free and express it in a way that is true and honest. You don't have to choose me, you can choose someone "less" or someone "more" and that would be okay. I only hope that you will take the time to see my work and know that in this story I am the story teller and you will not find anyone more invested in telling your story as authentically as possible.

There is something deeply beautiful about freezing a moment that will never exist again.

The way your child reaches for your hand without thinking. The laughter that wasn't planned. The quiet moments between the posed ones. Those are the memories that matter most.

For more than 15 years, I have had the privilege of photographing the moments that matter most. From growing families to beloved pets, horses, engagements, weddings, and everything in between, my passion has always been creating photographs that feel real, natural, and full of life.

As the recipient of 2nd Place in the Best of Durban Readers' Choice Awards for Best Photographer, I am incredibly grateful to have built a reputation for creating images that people treasure for years to come. My approach is relaxed, authentic, and centred around connection rather than stiff poses or forced smiles.

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to work with children and animals. Whether your toddler would rather explore than sit still, your dog has endless energy, or your horse has a mind of its own, I understand that the best photographs happen when people and animals feel comfortable, safe, and free to be themselves. Patience, intuition, and experience allow me to capture genuine moments that reflect personality and emotion.

My sessions are about more than simply taking photographs. They are about preserving memories, relationships, milestones, and the small moments that often become the most meaningful with time.

Based in the Upper Highway area, I specialise in family, children, couples, engagement, pet, equine, maternity, and individual portrait photography.
