‘Heinde en vêr’
A collaborative exhibition between myself and .thorst , opened at the festival this past Saturday.
The exhibition will run until 4 April in Oudshoorn.

This body of work emerges from a meeting that is both physical and temporal: A journey from one place to another, and a return marked by response. Danish painter Lasse Thorst’s works originate in Aalborg, rooted in a northern landscape of memory, folklore, and atmosphere. In contrast, Frans Smit’s paintings are not independent works, but replies, gestures made after encountering, transporting, and living with Thorst’s paintings. Together, they form a conversation across distance: Denmark to elsewhere (South Africa), origin to response, past to present.

Excited to announce this collaborative exhibition will be part of the KKNK festival opening 28 March 2026 in Oudshoorn, South Africa.
