I’m excited to share details about our upcoming Instagram Live episode, which will focus on Black women in photography. We will be highlighting the important topics of visual activism and diversity within the African photography scene.
Our first guest is Aina Zo Raberanto - a talented journalist photographer based in Madagascar’s capital. Passionate about street photography since 2017, Raberanto primarily captures compelling black-and-white images using her phone. She embraces the accessibility and intimate perspective that mobile photography offers.
Beyond her photography, Raberanto is the founder and editor-in-chief of “Alefa Kolotsaina”, an online cultural magazine in Madagascar. Additionally, she has created “This body is mine by A.Z.” - a clothing and accessories brand centered around themes of body positivity and empowerment.
Our second guest is Loliwe Phiri - a Zambian humanitarian photographer. She specializes in documenting humanitarian efforts, events, and corporate projects across Africa through powerful imagery. Her work emphasizes the resilience of communities and the impact of aid.
As the founder of Loliwe Photography, Phiri collaborates closely with international NGOs and local organizations to bring visibility to their work and the communities they serve. She is also a proud member of Women Photograph, a global collective of women and non-binary photographers. Her impactful work has been featured in Oxfam’s “Climate Witness” series, where she shared her experiences documenting the effects of climate change in remote regions.
